Christening is devoting your Baby to God, similar to what the Jews did when they have there male babies circumcised and consecrated to God..Baptism is something that only a person who is able to understand and choose for themselves that they believe and receive Christ and turn from their sin..it is symbolic to the death to self and the resurrection into Christ.

The words are often interchangeable, but the intention is different. Baptism refers to the washing away of sin and impurity. Christening refers to initiation into the community of the Church. To be baptized is to be prepared for salvation by the removal of the effects of Original Sin. To be Christened is to be made a member of Christ's people. Often in churches that do not allow infant baptism, a christening or blessing will be performed to acknowledge the child's membership in the church. But this usage is not exclusive.

Some ppl think they are the same thing however, baptism is the willingness to show publicly with imagery the death and cleansing of ones spirit. (Submersion coming up clean of spirit) and Christening is by parental or guardianship a dedication of the youth's soul to the Spirit. Christenings are done before the person is capable of deciding for themselves, baptism are done with those who have chosen it's symbolism. In my mind, not the same thing.

A Christening is the church ceremony where someone, usually an infant, is "blessed" with their "Christian name", something we use as our "first" name in the US.
A baptism is a ritual symbolizing burial where a believer, in front of witnesses, disavows their former life "without Christ", is "buried" in water (the old life is symbolically washed away), and emerges a "new person" in Christ. In a way, it also symbolizes the new birth, for the new believer comes through water (as newborn infants do) into the world.
The ceremonies are not the same.
