Since God is the one, all knowing supreme intelligence in the universe; didn't He know that there are no other Gods?

He knew, but people don't. Although we are entirely too sophisticated to believe in God (or "other" gods), anything that you place at supreme importance in your life becomes your "god."

If you know more baseball stats than you know Bible verses, that has become your god. If you know the lyrics to your favorite music, but have no idea how many Psalms there are in the Bible, that has become your god.

And the Israelites were especially prone to bowing down to that which was man-made. And that, more than any other reason, was why God put that in the commandments.

At that moment in history there were many gods worshipped.
They had just come out of egypt. There they were forced to worship the nile river and its god's. The ten plagues was each one directed at a certain God of the egypians.
The goddess of darkness, the river turning to blood. He was demonstrating that he was more powerful than those God's.
They had frog gods and even the Pharoah was worshiped by his son dieing he was even stronger than him. He basically killed the next God. the first born son.
When they got out on the mountain did they immediately leave those other gods? Probably not.
Look at Christians today. When Sun worshipers were converted to Christianity they brought the worship of the Christmas tree, giving gifts and having a party with them. When sex worshippers were converted they brought the easter bunnie and colored eggs.
Worshippers of the God Tammuz was converted they brought the cross.
So it is hardly a stretch to think they those people who had been there in that pagan culture all their lives might bring some things from past worship. Yes, God knew that false worship was actually to the Demons and Satan or the fallen angels.
Much as it is today.

because God created humans with free will, and gave us the respect to choose for ourselves and learn things we didn't know before and learn from our mistakes too. God is smart enough to keep that in mind and not violate it. God didn't want us to be mindless robots; Humans do have the power to choose right and wrong. God's recommendation is to choose right and good for us. When we choose other things instead, we go in the direction of dysfunctional obsessions or neuroses that can disregard or hurt other people get us in trouble or waste our time or cause us a lot of suffering or emotional pain. We could choose to make anything our deity which we worship, and it would be our personal "God", but it won't be productive, or healthy, or allow us free spirit like the true God does. He knows whats good for our souls even if we don't want to admit it.

The Egyptians worshipped a host of false gods, including Pharoah, and the Israelites had begun to accept many of them, during the 400 years they spent in Egypt.

The one, true God was simply making a clear statement that all other gods were false, and that he alone was the only legitimate object of their worship.

The Israelites certainly needed to be reminded of that fact, since they couldn't seem to keep from worshipping a golden calf, even though they were camped out at the foot of God's holy mountain.

Yes, but maybe a lot of us do not know there are no other Gods. We worship money, sex, drugs, etc.

Moses had barely come off the mountain carrying the stone tablets and his people were worshiping a Golden Calf. They had already dis-paired of hope in their God and were literally breaking the 1st commandment as it was being written. Moses in anger broke all 10 at one time by throwing the tablets to the ground. We create the Gods we wish to worship, sex, drugs, money etc. None of these Gods follow us past the grave. If we don't acknowledge the creator, God, and put these other Gods before him, our Gods will die with our bodies. And our immortal souls will not recognize their creator. You have to know your creator in life in order to know him in your souls eternal life. If you put your physical longings before your creator, in death you have lost it all.

You asked:

In the Ten Commandments God said to have no other Gods before Him. Why would He make such a dumb statement?

Have no Gods before him..The word BEFORE. How about AFTER him?

This has always got me puzzled, or am I just adding confussion?

For God knew that in those times man worshiped different gods that were false gods. A lot of mankind believed in a different god for every thing good. Also keep in mind in that time God tried to convince man that he existed by preforming certain miracles that were requested of him to prove his existence to a skeptical people of that time. Let's not forget it was after God delivered his chosen people out of bondage from Egypt that he set down this commandment to the people of Israel. It was quite some time when God, who loved mankind and after waiting for mankind to live and do right and just, realized that the only way to save mankind was to sacrifice his only Son at the hands of man in order to save his children(man) and give man the opportunity to make it into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Moron.

How about picking up a book and reading for a change. No sooner than Moses descended from the mountain with God after writing the Ten Commandments what did he find the Israelites doing?
Instead of trying to justify your homosexuality by bashing Christian/Judeo religion beliefs why don't you learn how to read and comprehend the Bible and find your own truth.

Degenerate.

Obviously, there are other gods, so the ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Mayas, Incas ans Aztecs must have been correct in poly-deity. The OT (Genesis) explains the 1st Commandment with the statement 'I am a jealous and vengeful God; thou shalt not hold any other gods before me. Jealous and vengeful? Not my God. Sorry about yours.

Because there are other Gods. Also Humans have a nasty habit of worshipping all sorts of things. The sun and moon, Animals, planets, and even each other.
For some people it's sex. Anything you place ahead of God is worshipping a God before the God of Jesus.
