Me and my kitty moved into a new apartment about a month ago. Things are fine, and she has adjusted well. However, now that it is getting colder outside, I have to turn my furnace on. Whenever it kicks on, she meows like she is in heat! It is so loud and terrible! I have to put her into my bedroom till it kicks off. She is spayed, and she has not acted like this since till now. I don't want my new neighbors to complain about the noise that she makes. But I don't want to freeze either!
I thought maybe she would get used to the extra noise, but the furnace has been on for about 3 days now, and she still doesn't stop. She is 4 years old, so she has lived through winters before and they were nothing like this. HELP!

What kind of furnace do you have? If it is gas you need to get it checked to see if it has a carbon monoxide leak or something. If it is electric maybe the noise is bugging her. Cats have super hearing.
It could be that she is just getting used to the new place, or maybe she is getting overheated. Maybe put her in a room with a fan on to see if that helps.
There is also a possibility that she has allergies..maybe have the super change the filters on the heater.
Have you had her checked out at the vets lately?

Yeah he may be hurt hungry or thirsty, If he is sitting by a door try letting him in if he is following you and meowing he might want attention. Try changing his food and water first. If he doesn't quit then, try opening the doors in the house. If he keeps meowing check him over. If he keeps meowing let him outside, if he doesn't want outside play a game with him. If that doesnt work clean out his litter box. If he's still meowing call the vet. Good luck.

My God these cats confound us! They are not dogs. They all have such singular personalities. Make sure it isnt a health problem as so much of their acting out often is. Then you can consider it as a bid for attention or just a "cat quirk." If it's not a health issue then just putting her in a room or ignoring her wackiness may teach her ( gradually) that it isn't getting her the attention anymore. I live in an apartment building and my cat would stand by the door and SCREAM to go out in the hall. I went nuts trying to figure out how to deal, but since I didn't ever let him out after WEEKS he stopped. Slow learner, that boy!

there are many possibilities such as;
(a) she is sick
(b)cats can survive in the snow with their fur imagine the furnace on with a whole bunch of layer on.
(c)it thinks your furnace is a predator.

There are 2 possibilaties.

1) she doesn't seem comfy in the new house

2) she's sick.

ask your vet for a check up anyways.
