I have had and still have many different animals, especially, horses and dogs. Therefore, I've met and become personal friends with a lot of vets. What I have learned is that Iam's is a very good food. Iam's also makes the food "Eukanuba" which is pretty much top if the line. Have you ever heard of the "Eukanuba Dog Show?" My point being, that if "Eukanuba" food was using animal testing and was not of very good quality for your animal, then why would sponsors and showmen enter this high priced dod show? This dog show is a very prominate.
I have ALWAYS feed all my dogs Iam's or Eukanuba and have had no trouble with the nutrientional value and "dog worthyness", if you will. It so happens that I just adopted a lab puppy and she has a sensitive digestion sysem, therefore, I will always have to feed her, daily, the Rx (prescripiton), "Eukanuba Low Residual" (an Iams product) dog food. I cannot buy this food at any animal story or on-line because it is only presribed by vets.. So, if vets presribe a "Eukanuba" product, which I'll say again - Eukanuba is a Iams product - then maybe you should do more research on the Iams dog food, starting with your personal vet. Maybe get on the internet and/or call other vets and question different vets what they think about the Iams food. I wouldn't take just one or two persons answer and run with it. I am an investigator therefore, investigation is in my blood. I will investigate anything that I have ANY doubts about, whatever that may be,ie, person(s), employment, animals I want to buy, breeders, people that show, and etc. In closing, please investigate for youself and then when you are satisfied, one way or another, you can say that you investigated the product enough to make a educated choice. Then you can sit back happy and content with your choice. Good Luck!!

I've checked the peta website often on this issue, and I have found that they make little or no mention of Purina cruelty, and they would if purina was testing on animals, so I use purina. You can also use Nutra, and some of the more expensive brands only sold in pet stores. But you really shouldn't get science diet, because its not filled with the best stuff for cats. Iams is really cruel, so I never buy any Iams or Iams-company products such as Eukanuba.

First of all, yes, corn is digestible to cats.... however, it is empty calories. It will make your cat fat.
Try a natural died that lists chicken as a primary ingredient. I feed my cats Nutro Adult indoor formula. They love it. It makes them shed less and has helped my fat one start dropping his weight.
Truth be told, there are plenty of terrible pet food companies that conduct cruel test. Iams IS, hands down, the worst. Rather than attacking all of these companies at once, PETA targets one at a time, puts the pressure on, and moves to the next once the first has set the precedent for change.
Look at the Petco campaign.... PETA's boycotts and protest brought about some of the most humane pet store policy ever. This includes selling frozen food for reptiles instead of live bait, encouraging customers to adopt, and the end to selling large exotic birds that are completely inappropriate for the pet store environment. Of course, PetSmart was just as guilt, but you can only have the same battle going on so many fronts. Now that Petco has set the precedent, PETA has moved on to PetSmart...
Like it or not, if it were not for PETA, we wouldn't see many of the positive changes that we see today. Protesting, boycotting, etc. are very "American" activities. Our country was founded by people who stood up for what was right, and refused to compromise. This is historically how many great changes have been made. As far as the IAMS investigation goes, it's sad, but true. You can join the fight and avoid their food - there are plenty of other options. This small step you take may help bring an end to cruel test on dogs and cats!

IAMS company does not test on animals. iamscruelty.com is a PETA run website. PETA has their own agendas. PETA are extremists who believe dogs shouldn't be domesticated and should be vegetarians! The AKC champion was feed Eukanuba, an IAMS food.
IAMS rescues dogs from shelters and places them on their food to see if the nutritional content is right. After the dogs leave the program they are usually adopted by IAMS employees or other good family's. They are never euthanized as PETA says.
I personally have a issue with PETA's methods, no matter what, but Slander campaigns are just that...slander. Here are some myths
1. Corn is indigestible.
Truth: Yes, in its whole kernel form. However, ground up like in IAMS food it is OK.
2. Chicken-by-products are beaks and feathers.
Truth: What the....? Um, no. They are livers, kidneys, hearts and other organs. IAMS cannot use whole chicken breast because if they did their would be none left for humans...no kidding. IAMS is the biggest buyer of chicken in the US.
Think before you believe slander.....PROOF people PROOF. How do we know those pics are from IAMS facilities??? We don't. PETA could say that all cats are humans in furry bodies....would you believe them cause they just said it? No, cause their is no proof.

Iams does do horrible and cruel testing on animals. http://iamscruelty.com/
Natural Choice (Nutro), RoyalCanin, Wellness, Blue Spa... these are all good brands to buy.
Taste tests are to be expected from pet food companies, but Iams doesn't stop at taste testing.

Whiskas? Meow Mix? Nutro is the best by far. There is alot of different brands you can buy. Its not that they TEST on animals, they keep animals in horrible conditions while they eat IAMS food :) Its kinda crappy that a multi billion dollar company cant afford to keep its test animals clean and happy.

Iams is an inferior food for sure. It is made by Proctor & Gamble and the cruel testing is done on bunnies who have P&G's detergents, shampoos, etc. poured into their eyes(blinding them) or forced down their throats (killing them) so that P&G can be sure they won't harm humans and to avoid lawsuits which might result in such damage to humans.
I have used no P&G products for my personal use or in my home for over fifteen years.
The "testing" done in animal food trials goes on for six months or less and there again, no one really knows what results when you feed a certain food to a pet for its whole lifetime.
Iams uses by-product meat (heads, feathers, entrails, feet, etc.) in the making of their cat food. This is an inferior source of protein for your cat and their formulations are 2/3 corn which is also not an appropriate food for a cat.

I would go with Science Diet, all dog food companies do test their food on dogs and cats, its not that it is cruel its just how the food companies treat the animals in their care.
IAMS is a bad company for not treating their animals right.
good Luck
the proof is here:

I have used Iams for years and would not feed anything else. I really question gossip of any kind- can someone show proof that Iams did this? Accusations with no proof are not right.
