this isnt one of those chicken or egge questions.

okay, apparently christianity has been around for like, thousands and thousands of years, is meant to be from the early civilisations.

yet i read somewhere else, that pagan is pre-christian, so why is pagan classed as bad and christianity good, if paganism came first, which if it wasn't for paganism, christianity wouldntreally be here.

i'm pretty confused about the whole thing.

to Follower of Christ- I think you are a little confused, I am a Pagan and I am not a Christian, in fact I have never met a Pagan who believed that Jesus was the Christ. Although I have respect for him, it is on the same level as the respect I have for other "prophets" I do not believe them to be Deity.

Most Christians would follow their line back to the first humans on Earth, who they believe to be Adam and Eve. This means that the one God belief has been around since them, at least in Jewish, Christian and Muslim thought. So to say that Paganism predates Christianity or the belief in one God would not "fly" with Christians.
Paganism can be traced from all over the world and from many times, it is not a blanket religion, it encompasses many thoughts and gods and goddesses. Paganism is believed to be the first religion.

Christianity has been around for 2006 years or there abouts that's why were on 2006 anno Domini the year of our lord because we use the Christian calendar some other countries are on a different year completely .that s the start of Christianity Pagans were about a hell of a lot earlier than that so were Druids and all different beliefs when Christianity came to England The church wanted the people to convert but they knew the only fun they had was at the pagan festivals and no way would they give it up to follow Christianity which was all about "thou shalt not"there life was crap enough anyway so the church got a plan and they matched the Pagan festivals in with the important dates in Christianity so all the commoners could have their fun days but pretend they wasn`t celebrating anything Heathen So you see Churches have a lot of sly ways to get around things Pagan had to be bad for Christianity to be good its the same with the Bible the early Catholics put bits in and left bits out to fit in with what they were preaching there were loads of different variations of the Bible untill King James decided that every one had to use the same (the one we have now ) but funny enough the first mention of a Holy Trinity didn`t come till the 16th century you see its all been corupted and changed by men over the centuries

Christianity is reasonably recent as far as "since the beginning of time" goes. Really, most of Christianity was adopted from earlier pagan beliefs, including the figure of Jesus, the holiday of Christmas, and much more.

There are many tenants of Christianity that have come from ancient religion. It is believed that somewhere along the line that images and names were changed. Orginally the virgin Mary was called the black madonna, which was really an Egyptian Deity that gave birth to Horus which is Jesus. There are many places that you can find it in books and look it up online, but my point is that it is very hard to find the roots of mainstream religion. Why? It is a power thing.

Pagan came first. Many of the holidays such as Easter and Christmas originated from pagan festivals.

Our counting of years comes from the birth of Jesus Christ, God's Son who was born some time around the year 1. His birth date is not known for certain. He was born about 2000 years ago and He made it possible for all of us to know God. Pagan's were people who worshiped things like the sun or moon or cow's and things like this. People throughout the ages have had trouble believing in a higher authority and a Creator. They have this silly notion they are the only intelligent thing in the universe and we just happened along because of some accident which even scientist believe the chances of this happening are nearly impossible. As intelligent as these people think we are, we still cannot create life. Hmmm...

That's a brutal yet beautiful question!

May I suggest that the origins of paganism are virtually as old as the origins of mans walk with God.

Have you ever heard of Adam and Eve's temptation by the serpent in the garden of Eden?

In this story we see mans walk with God and his rebellion against God.

There is a verse in scripture that says that Rebellion against God is as witchcraft. In a nutshell, our pride is our downfall, alittle humility and obedience towards God will bring much reward now, not just in the here after.
