Why is it when a person has been drowned and their body has remained in the water for a sufficient period of time their eyes seem to pop out of their skull, but when normal decomposition takes place, their eyes will sink into their heads?

When the body is in water the body absorbs it, thus pushing the eyes out...When a body decomposes it dehydrates it losses moisture, thus pulling the eyes in...

If they are put into a dry enviroment then yes the excess water will recede and the eyes will fall back into their heads. There is nothing more vile than a body that has been in the water for days.

I think that the lack of oxygen to the brain makes that happen but... Trust me I'm no scientist or undertaker. So this is just my opinion.
