I'm a US citizen and lived and worked 14 years in Saudi Arabia. Yes it does complicate your life. Old friends seem glad to see you when you return and ask several questions, then the conversation changes to what is sale at Walmart or the color of the car in the showroom at the local auto dealer. Friends and family become distant because they can't visualize what you're telling them and have never experienced anything near what you're talking about.
