I really WANT to like cats...but they don't seem to like me. They're mean and they never want to play or antyhing...they just sleep and act like brats. Why would anyone have an animal that you have to feed and care for that doesn't seem to like you at all?

I'm a cat person and your last question makes me smile. That is the reason we like cats. We treat them like royalty and they ignore us. That IS the point.

OK, the deal with cats is that they are extremely good at reading people. If you are convinced that a cat will not like you, swat at you, or ignore you, it probably will. If you approach a cat assuming that it will decide that you are a friend, chances are (unless it's skittish) that you will be accepted.

My older female is the sweetest cat ever! She LOVES to be pet. I would challenge anyone to come to my house and leave saying that they don't like cats.

Now, my male on the other hand, has his "list," like an exclusive club. He KNOWS things!!! LOL He has his group of people that he has decided are worthy of his affection and tolerence. Everyone else can go to you-know-where. It's just how he is -- and he's my favorite!

A cat is a very different creature than a dog. Dogs are pack animals who will follow the commands of their 'alpha' human owner...while cats are semi-independent and pick the humans they want to interact with, also a cat can sense whether someone is a 'cat person'...and it takes time and patience to get to know and make friends with a cat but to me it's all worth it because I love cats!

All cats are different. I always say my cats should've been born dogs because they come when I call them, lay in my lap, play when I want to, etc. I think a lot of it has to do with where they come from and what breed they are. I used to have a cat that was a royal *****, so it might just be personality.

Cats sleep by day and play by night, maybe the best time to social with your cat would be after dinner, that way the cat will have a good days sleep and you can enjoy their company after your dinner.

Would you like your sleep disturbed?

If I were a cat I would not like you either.

Listen to yourself:
"they're mean" "they act like brats" "they never want to play or anything"

Enough said. A doorstop would make a good pet for you.

Cats KNOW they are Kings and Queens and we the humans are their humble servants. Ahhhhh to be a cat LOL. I have 4 cats and the 2 female know they are Queens but they do come to me for a good dose of luvin, back scratching, chin rubbin, and belly rubs. They will curl up on my lap and give me kisses and lots of loud purrs. Regards KG

Not all cats are the same. We have four, three were litter mates and the fourth was a stray who stuck around. All of them love attention and show a lot of affection. Faerie will "talk" to you whenever you pay attention to her, Precious loves laps, Sebastian will allow you to hold him even when he is tail-wagging angry. Milo is my favorite because he chose me as his person. Wherever I go he wants to follow. If I sit, he is on my lap(very irritating in the bathroom), when I bend over the sink to brush my teeth he jumps up on my back, he loves rubbing his head on my face especially when I let my beard grow and he will even lick my face, I guess to clean me. I was always a dog person and I'm even allergic to cats, but I wouldn't get rid of them.

Obviously you haven't found the cat that has decided YOU are the one THEY want. They're finicky, persnickety, snobbish, and can be a royal pain. Once you find one that decides you want them, they are great. When I went to the shelter to get my 1st cat in TX, the one I was playing with wouldn't stop crying until I took him out, wound his paws in my hair to avoid getting put back in and bit the shelter worker when she took him out for a little girl to see and made my leg a climbing post to get to me. Was funny to see, needless to say at 5 he's still home with me!
