Six SMALL meals a day and not going to the buffet six times a day. Something like bacon and eggs for breakfast, carrot and celery sticks inbetween breakfast and lunch, something like that. Oh, and you can't forget to exercise or else all that would've been for nothing.

The correct answer is: no.
Eating frequently is one of many possible techniques people employ to speed up their metabolism. Every time you eat, you "metabolize" the food and the more constant the stream of food in your body is, the faster the metabolism operates. The point being: 2000 calories in 3 large meals ends up giving 3 boosts to the metabolism, whereas 2000 calories in 6 smaller meals ends up giving 6 boosts to the metabolism, or 2x as much.
However, this is just one possibility in a wide array of choices for boosting your metabolism. The important point to take away from this may be that while eating more frequently can boost the metabolism and help you LOSE weight, dieting and calorie depravation will slow down the metabolism and make you GAIN weight over the long-term. Which is a key ingredient to why diets don't work!
So you don't need to eat 6 times a day to lose weight, but ultimately you do have to eat properly to lose weight!

The perfect equation for raising metabolism to lose weight is to eat four to five small meals per day, within your calorie alotment for the day. Exercise also raises the metabolism. Cardio exercise will burn calories up to one hour after your workout and strength training will raise your metabolism up to 24 hours. A combination of less calories, cardio, strength training and flexibility training all contribute to raising the metabolism and losing weight. Also remember NOT to go too low on your calories because that will do the reverse to your metabolism...it will slow it down. Your body will think it is starving and therefore hold onto the fat. Hope that helps!!

My doctor tells me to eat six times a day, to get my metabolism to work better. I try but I am over weight. have thyroid trouble and only use to eating once a day. Maybe twice. Not much then either. So it like eating snacks six times. And trying to eat right too. But remember my doctor said not big meals six times a day. Just small amounts. And I got cable and I do exercise that is on Channel 864 twice a day three times a week, four days a week only once. But I still have trouble remembering to eat that many times. Habits die hard,

No, eating more often can raise you metabolism a little but for some people that could lead to eating too many calories to lose weight. It's really about the overall calories.

No you don't. But smaller portions spread out through the day allows the body to better metabolize the food.
Little type- eat all the fatty foods earlier in the day and lower calorie foods closer to bed time. It allows the fat to be burned off during your regular day as opposed to being packed onto the body while you sleep

I don't know about 6 times a day, but I think as long as they're small portions and low in calories, then that's a good idea. But don't forget that excercising is the real key to losing weight not eating more times a day. =)

The main thing to do is to exercise. Eating several small meals a day helps because you're not putting a heavy load of glucose into your bloodstream at once. "Grazing" is a better way to eat in order to avoid hunger and the resultant glucose spikes.

It is better to eat frequent SMALL meals than to eat three large ones. It keeps your body always in "burn" mode, processing food. Plus, it keeps you from being hungry and you will eat less at each meal.
