Well, I'm not a soldier fighting in Iraq but I am the wife of one who is currently deployed there. This is his second tour of duty in Iraq since 2003. He believes in fighting this war and helping out the Iraqi citizens, even if it means giving his life for it. Does he want to die? Of course not, but he knows that these poor people want freedom and deserve freedom, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to help them achieve freedom. The situation over in Iraq is not near as bad as the news makes it out to be. They are making an extreme amount of progress over there, but the news doesn't inform people of that for some reason. My husband and I both believe that if people were more informed about the good side of the war and not just the bad, more people would agree with the war and the soldier's efforts.
God Bless America and God Bless the Troops and Soldiers Overseas Dying to Defend Someone Else's Freedoms!!

We were in Japan for about 7 years after the surrender rebuilding that country. We were in Germany for about the same or a little longer rebuilding that country. In both of those cases, we were only putting back what had existed before. That is, both Japan and Germany had working democratic governments before WWII. We only needed to restore them to power to rebuild the countries.
We were in Bosnia for about nine years all together.
We've only been in Iraq for almost 4 years.
Moreover, what we're doing in Iraq is quite different than in any of the countries mentioned above. Iraq has no history of democratic representation. Iraqis have no idea what a free and democratic state looks like. They, with the help of Coalition Forces, are trying to build some thing that did not exist before.
"So long..."? When we invaded Iraq I expected that we would be involved in that country's affairs until about 2015. In my opinion, we're a little ahead of schedule.

I could agree that KK's answer is magnificent. I truthfully have close friends interior the defense force who I truthfully have talked in super element. KK is nice...the wide-unfold public of them think of that they are there for the right motives, and that leaving could be stupid. in addition they ALL sense that the liberal mainstream media are terrorists and could rather prefer to brutally beat the he11 out of them. human beings like Michael Moore-on look long and tricky for people who enlisted purely for the college training and are crying of their pillows at night. There are purely some. As for the guy who suggested that we could constantly ask the Iraqis how they savour us "destroying their usa" they're very almost one hundred% appreciative. The media additionally has to look a on an identical time as to discover people who do no longer prefer us there. There are some stongholds that are controlled by ability of the terrorists and that they hate us. different than that, progression is greater suitable than the media will record, ethical is intense, and the Iraqis proceed to hold water, candy, and foodstuff to furnish to our squaddies. don't think the mainstream media.

It's a necessary evil. We may not know exactly where they are, but we are better prepared now than we were wen we first got over there. Guerrilla Warfare is by far the worst kind of warfare because of the casualties that incur. You are right it is very different, we have cowards for enemies that will use anyone or anything to accomplish their goal. But like I said this war is a necessary evil.

I was over there, support the mission, am hoping to go back.
Hey, alfonso
I am a guard member and even though the guard and reserves are over there doesn't mean we are running out of troops. That's quite offensive to me, you make it sound like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel and having to send the crap that isn't worth a damn. Well, **** you and the horse you rode in on. The guard and reserves are also part of the military.

I was there, and it continually got worse and worse as the year went on. I was a .50 cal gunner on supply convoys, so I better not hear any REMF bullshit...Why is going on so long??? One reason we are in an unwinable war with an ever changing enemy and a population that does not want us there. We are responsible for over 600,000 deaths since we have invaded. If that does not make you sick to your stomach...well then you have a problem. For any of you that brand a tree hugging liberal...go ahead, it won't change the fact that I have the balls to put on a uniform and do what is asked of me, even if I didn't believe in it then, and I really don't believe in it now. If you think we are helping, look at the deaths we have created, the lack of power, the lack of saftey. At least before we went to Iraq the average citizen could go tot he store without worrying about being blown up, at least the average Iraqi citizen could go outside, go to work have a normal life. Put yourself in their situation...if your life was completely destroyed, if you have lost loved ones, a business, freedom to go where you want without being harrassed and degraded by foreign troops, would you want us there, would you feel your life was better? I think as citizens we have allowed ourselves to be deluded into thinking that we are doing this to better the Iraqi people, we are doing this for our own good, regardless of the lives it will cost. Remember this...my family first, then my tribe, then my village, then my country........We have created the worlds largest terrorist cell, or perhaps in the minds of the occupied...patriots....

My cousin was there, he said it sucked but he's still glad to be in the special forces.
BTW, even though he's going to be redeployed he has no regrets even with a wife and two baby girls.
