Sometimes I have to yell at him to get his attention but that dont work sometimes either.
But if I say "cookie" he comes running, and if I say "come here" he doesnt!

ugh it's called the "terrible two's" for a reason. The selective hearing doesn't end, it's what kids do.

He is only answering to what he wants! This is NORMAL! What kid wants to "come here" when their mother calls unless there is a "Cookie" involved! You can try to get him out of the habit by showing him that he does not have a choice in the matter. Your come here means business.

My husband is 30 and STILL has selective hearing, so I am sure it is possible for a 2 year old (especially if he is male).

I haven't met a kid yet who doesn't have selective hearing.
This is so normal. If you were standing right behind your son and he did not hear you he might have a slight
hearing problem. My kid can't hear anything behind her.
I really have to project to get her to hear. It's normal for her. She got it from her dad. lol Sounds like your son is just testing the boundaries to make sure they are still there.

It would be unusual for a two year old to NOT have selective hearing. Keep the faith, it only gets worse.

Uh, a two year old and a three year old, and a four year old, and a five year old..........let's see mine are 13 and 16 and are still plagued by that. Apparently any age is a "good" age for it.

LOL, all kids have selective hearing!!
We did too when we were kids, and nobody can dispute that.
Children are our penance. The "Grandparents' Curse" works: "I hope you have a kid who acts JUST LIKE YOU do!"
