Gabriel Fahrenheit proposed the Fahrenheit scale in 1724.
In this scale, the freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and the boiling point is 212 degrees, placing the boiling and freezing points of water 180 degrees apart.
William Thomas Kelvin developed a set of numbers to describe temperature (just like Celsius or Farenheit) that starts with zero being the absolute coldest temperature possible - Absolute zero. The other fixed point used as a reference is called the triple point of water: the temperature at which water, ice, and water vapor coexist in equilibrium.
Anders Celsius proposed the Celsius scale in 1742. In this scale, 0 °C on the Celsius scale was defined as the melting point of water and 100 °C was the boiling point of water under a pressure of one standard atmosphere.
