I have heard storys about Coca Cola being responsible for really bad conditions of poverty all over the world. Particulary India I think. I'd like to know the truth so I know whether it's Coke or Pepsi I should order next time.

Cut out all the big corporations if you really care - they all exploit someone, something or somewhere...research if you don't believe me...or try reading a book called "No Logo".

What multi-national does not exploit some group or another: whether employees or customers?

Given the exploration, accessing of raw product, research, processing, political manoeuvring, distribution and safety considerations involved in making a litre of petroleum products, for a price we often regard as excessive, why is it that Coke/Pepsi et al sell their products for twice the cost per litre for simply adding sugar to water?

It's all about exploiting a gullible market -- whether labour or consumer -- by acclimating it to accept their demands and the perception the market has no choice.

What freaks me out about coke is the cost in different parts of the globe. i.e a bottle of coke costs £1.20 in the UK but £0.15 in parts of Africa. The company makes a HUGE PROFIT no matter where the drink is produced.

Basically they have a licence to print money. No wonder they can spend so much on marketing and advertising!

It might be!Did you know(last time i checked, its in my math book it could be a few years ago)that 53% of the $ Indians make go to food?!Only 10% of our profit(U.S.)goes to food!Coke is a waste of money it is bad for you! Do the acid battery in the coke test, my friends mom quit after seeing the results!Pepsi is the same its like Deer Park or Zephyrhills, they're like practically the same.

Definitely Primark, after watching a BBC documentary about how they use poor children in India to stitch the clothing and then deny this by saying that they have a policy against child labour, so I would say them also GAP did it last year and also denied that they knew off this happening.

Another train of thought could be that these big companys, although paying a pittance, are providing some form of employment to these 'exploited people'. Surely if they had another option for employment they would take it. With out these 'exploitative' companies, some people would not work and therefore earn at all.

I agree with the guy above me, No Logo by Naomi Klein taught me a lot. When I found out that Converse were now made by Nike *spit* and had outsourced and thus were paying peanuts, I was disgusted.

Read the book, it's good :-)
