I bought my dress on ebay and it was a perfect transaction. I had tried the gown on in a store, and found it "brand new with tags" for $600 less online!! I couldn't afford not to. She had a 99.9% rating, and like I said, it was a perfect transaction.
Also, I've worked in a bridal store before, and almost all wedding gowns are made in China. The designers might be in the US, or Canada, but they are manufactured out of China.

I wouldn't simply because all dresses fit differently- especially wedding dresses. A size ten from one designer may be way too big and from another could be way too small. If you do measurements it would be more accurate, but you still aren't assured that you will like the way the dress fits you or that the dress is comfortable. Don't forget about the fact that what you see on ebay may not look exactly the same up close. The only way I would do this is if the Ebay store has a 100% return policy and you have enough time to find another dress if this one doesn't work out.

Yes but make sure you know a competent seamstress. Make sure you have your measurements and don't buy a dress that doesn't have the measurements for the size on the page, or a link to the manufactures sizing page. DON'T BUY BY YOUR STREET SIZE!!! And pay attention to the shipping a lot of eBay sellers will rip you off there. You may win a $50 dress and end up paying $200 in shipping. And if you get one that was a store sample you may need to have it cleaned. and last of all get it in time to have it altered if it needed (oh and from experience if it fits perfect when you get it and the wedding is still months away try it on once in awhile, I had to find another dress one week before my wedding cause i had lost ten lbs while planning. Almost all from my top and it was strapless.)

I bought my dress through the seller OnnallureUSA. As long as you measure yourself properly (they usually have a guide to tell you exactly where & how) it should fit. I ordered mine based on the measurements and it fit perfectly - I just needed to get it steamed and pressed (don't freak out when it comes in this little itty bitty box!) and that only cost $20. So for a grand total of $120 I had a very original dress that no one has ever seen before because they don't sell them in any shop I've been to!
Most sellers are good about returns too. Also, don't be afraid to ask about a size they may not have. They sometimes offer larger/smaller sizes for $20 more. Just watch the shipping charges. My dress cost $40.00 but the shipping was $60 - but you will never find a dress like it anywhere else!!!

A wedding dress is like a car...its one of those things that you've got to test out before you buy. In my opinion the risk here far outweighs the benefits.
Are all of this seller's positives for dresses? Contact some of the buyers who left positive feedback for the seller and email them asking how they liked their dresses and were there any problems. A wedding dress is an extremely personal item and cannot be custom tailored via email as well as a bridal shop (most of whom will take your measurements personally or make adjustments while the dress is on your body so that you can see, step by step, what the finished product will look like.)
I must say, I just get a bad feeling about this. If you love that dress, you can probably find a dressmaker locally who would be more than willing, when you show them a picture, to recreate your dream dress for you for a decent price...and you'd have peace of mind, which is priceless.

everything is a risk. I've heard too many horror stories from buying wedding dresses online. Make your own choice, but if they don't send it or it's not what you thought it was going to be. You'll have a tough time getting your money back. A friend of mine bought a XBox on Ebay and ended up getting stiffed by the person. They too had a 100% rating. And the guy stiffed 2 others at the same time. They can go in there and edit their ratings and delete some to make it look good. Good luck!

You may need to order it really early. No telling how many times you may need it altered if it doesn't fit right. I see nothing wrong with ordering the dress from someone on EBay. It is still a new dress - just made somewhere far away. Big deal. You don't have to tell anyone where you got it. The whole thing is to get a dress you will feel beautiful in and to not spend too much money on it. You could even take it to a seamstress and have her modify it more so it is truly one of a kind.

My daughter-in-law bought her dress from eBay. It was a beautiful designer dress and the cost with shipping was less than 20% of the dress at David's bridal. If you look, you can find dresses that were showroom or window dresses for next to nothing. Then you will still have your beautiful dress and money to put to another use. I highly recommend eBay, but always check out your seller. Read all the negative and consider not only the percentage but the number of sales. Always use caution.

i would be very careful about buying from overseas (esp. China) for such an important occassion. other than that, buying from eBay can be such a great thing. I'm in a March wedding & I bought my bridesmaid's dress on eBay for $43!! It is beautiful, brand new with the tags, & the seller was highly rated (I don't mess with anyone whose rating is not 99 or 100)
