1) Because the American school systems mainly teach about European/European Decendant culture, not much about anyone elses, which causes many of us to be ignorant.
2) Most people are racists and don't even realize it, so clearly many of those people help spread rediculous stereotypes about people different from them.
3) The media helps confuse the people by the way it negatively portrays Latino's many times.
People in general are stupid. Get used to it. Thats why we have Nukes.

Society stereotypes everybody, not just Mexicans. That's how it understands people, and most things, by labeling them. If the confusion you are talking about is that most Americans tend to think that all Latinos are the same and that they are all Mexican, I guess that's because Mexicans are the group most talked about at the moment. Since I'm married to a Puerto Rico, I don't do that. I'm also interested in ethnicity, cultures, and languages, so I don't group all Latinos together for that reason, either.

Society tends to stereotype the mexican culture because the American culture is so thick with stereotypes it often references it out of habit, but then asks you not to mention it.

It will probably sound racist, but this is the truth. We can't tell what you are or where you are from. All latinos kind of look similar. We also can't tell if an asian is from China, Japan, Korea, or wherever. Same thing. It is just how it is. I am not saying that to be mean.

White society is good for stereotyping all minorities without knowledge of those particular cultures so they can feel good about themselves because they truly believe that everyone should be just like them.
