I was thinking about purchasing one. However, i cant find many ratings as far as mechanical problems. It seems like a lot of them have head gasket problems. I dont really want to do a head gasket job. I would rather buy an Accord or something more reliable.

That's because a car that old is not possible to rate. When a car gets that old, the way it's been treated is more important than the mileage. One that's received no maintenance will be trouble. And one that's been abused will be even worse.

Usually the head gasket issues come in when somebody takes a turbo car and turns up the boost.

the celica-supra the very first one was kinda OK but any supras after that -SUCK-. head gasket problems and if the a/c went south the bill would be well into the thousands of dollars. as for the new body style with the 2J and the 2JT motor were much better and more reliable. stay away from supras in general unless you have very deep pockets.....

I had a 1987 Supra that I bought in 1993....it was a good car until 2000, when it hit 90,000 miles the head gasket blew. I spent 900 bucks to get it replaced.....when they were doing the work, they called me and said I needed a new short block, because it was warped beyond repair by machining. I still had to pay the 900 bucks......then I traded it in....got hardly anything for it.....cried for months after losing that car. :-(
My brother has a 1993......so far he has had good luck with it. I guess I can't complain.....I had mine for 7 years. I loved that car.
