Trust me... You will know if you contract head lice. It is perfectly normal to be paranoid when you find out someone around you has something contagious. Just make sure you blow dry your hair on high eat after you wash it and that will kill a bug if you have one. If you do turn out to have this, don't freak out. You can get rid of them as long as you treat them properly, but I don't think you have it. If you did, your head would be itching some by now. Lice lay eggs quick and it spreads fast and you said this was 2 days ago.

no, they don't. especially those things.... lice live off the oils in the hair, mayo, and peanut butter are oily, they will feed the bugs. Don't know about listerine. I know that Lysol may work, or the old school turpentine which I would never recommend.. Instead of using RID, use Pronto. It's better. Get one of those metal combs that pull out the nits... Another thing that helps reduce outbreaks would be to wash their hair every day. That will wash out the lice if you also use the comb, before they have a chance to lay their eggs which is the real problem. I'm so sorry you are having this trouble so early.

First of all, lice do not jump. If you didnt use her comb or wear her hat, and your heads didnt bump together, your probably fine. And if you feel fine,(no itching) then your probably fine. Washing your hair after contact does not get rid of lice, you have to get a perscription shampoo. For your peace of mind, have someone check your hair and scalp for a week, if nothing, your good to go.

Well I had that problem before my best friend had lice and I gave her a hug and we use to bump our heads together (I was in young) I got lice from her and never knew I had it I then gave them to my sister and my mom noticed them in my hair and used a product called Rid in my hair. I think that you should try using a shampoo for lice in your hair to be safe.

If your scalp starts to itch, maybe, since lice can jump. I would just wash it really good, have someone scan over your scalp with a comb and keep an eye on it, just in case.

I had lice two years ago and believe me, it sucks. As long as your head doesn't itch, you're fine. Just in case, have someone look carefully through your hair to look for little black/brown circles stuck to your hair (poop). Hope you don't have lice!!!

Have someone (your mom or a sister or someone) comb through your hair -- particularly at the back along the neck. They should look for "nits" -- little white things attached to the hair that are hard to remove. It is really hard to tell yourself.

have someone else check for them esp near back of neck where warmest. tiny white things very hard to see..
also armpits and pubic..
can take awhile to hatch.
should have thoroughly cleaned and combed hair same day and clothes in hot dryer to kill.
if you find any clean bedding and clothes and all that came in contact with those and you too.
your school nurse can explain what to do if you find any or ask county public health.
lots of kids get them but hope ya don't!
