There's a growing number of dentists who practice sedation dentistry, where they basically put you in la-la land and do the work while you're out of it. There are pros and cons to sedation dentistry, but it's an option you may want to consider if you are avoiding getting necessary dental work done. The longer you wait, the worse things get. Read the link below to learn more about this alternative. If you want to go to your regular dentist, you might ask if he can use some of these techniques to help you get through.

Insist they put a drop of anaesthetic on a swab and hold it on the roof of your mouth so you don;t feel the jab.
There's just no excuse for pain at the dentist. This is 2006 for gods sake!
If you don;t get a sympathetic response, take your money elsewhere.

Just been yesterday - 1 filling £40 - what a rip off. Close your eyes when you know he's going to give you the needle.

Ok take a chill pill I am a 13 year old girl and I have had that shot like 4 times. But I get scared every time to. the best thing I can do is tell you wat is going to happen. first they will have a stupid convo to try to relax you then they will tell you they have to give you a shot. THe most importnt thing is while they are giving you the shot think of something else . also its better to get it over with trust ME. i waited to long to get the shot once and The problem in my mouth got worse so they had to give me a BIGGER SHOT. can you say OWWWWW. good luck! oh and dont worry it hurts a little but its fast. ..........usually

thats nothing, wait to you have to get a root canal like I did. (my tooth colided with somek kid's head in gym and cut my gum and killed the nerves in my tooth, ouch)
anyway, dont sweat it. I'm sure it will be fine. I know a couple of people who have had that needle thing before, its not that bad.
(just so you know, I hate needles too)

lol, i need to go too, but i wont as im scared of needles. if you are really suffering, close your eyes and it will be over so fast. tell your dentist your scared of needles, he/she will talk you through everything and won't do anything until you are calm and at ease.

Went this morning, same thing. Only there about 20 minutes, what is twenty minutes; just concentrate on what you are going to do when you are done there, grin and bear it.
