i prefer both actually. honky is a great one but a little outdated. i usually use cracker. honky only on special occasions. i do hope that one day we get some new ones though. as great as they are, they both lack that shock value that the n word (dont want to offend anybody) has. THE BLACK MAN OWES THE WHITE MAN A NEW SLUR! ITS BEEN FAR TOO LONG AND OUR TIME HAS COME!
excellent question by the way...

Well, as a white guy, I know I don't want to be called a Cracker. It's a derogatory term referring to the ignorance and racism of the USA's ugly Southern Man relatives.
As for Honky, it never really struck me as terribly derogatory although it may have been used that way by some of our noble African-American cousins in the 1960's and 1970's.
So, I guess, unless you're my good friend, I don't think that I prefer to be called either name.

As a white person with 49 years experience, I can honestly say I'm both, although "Cracker" is my preferred racial epithet. "Honky" is so very '70's. It makes me feel like I should be wearing a lime green polyester leisure suit with a paisley shirt open to my belly button, a white belt, platform shoes and a Mr T starter kit.

"if the choice is only one or the other"? There is ALWAYS another choice. And I choose not to be either. =)
I have never lived in the South, nor have any of my family/ancestors, and these terms are for Southern white trash. They're hateful terms, just like all the other hateful terms you see on here.
White people prefer to be called just that - white people. Black people, Asian people, Latino and Hispanic people... the point is we're all PEOPLE and should treat each other like it. =)
Try to conceive of a world where you don't HAVE to be surrounded by racism and hate.

Chris Rock is hilarious with his Cracker insults...so I wouldn't go nuts if someone called me that. Of course, Honky is no big deal either. I would take offense to White Trailer Park Trash, though.

I i think they mean different things and possibly cracker is a little worse
I think cracker definitely implies that the person is poor, racist and southern.
honky to me anyways is somewhat less derisive.
But people joke around with these words so much that neither maybe be offensive to some people. Unfortunately some are proud to be crackers

Ever when you consider that i became little and til at present time i've got consistently talked approximately as my mum "Mummy" and my dad "Daddy". in basic terms by way of fact they in no way replied to "mum"/"dad". and it extremely is often caught, i think. comparable with my siblings, too. I swear each time my mom calls me at paintings, and that i answer asserting "hi, mummy", i'm getting the main strangest looks from my paintings colleagues. They consistently discover that hilarious and often take the mic. and that i'm able to actual see why that's humorous lol yet, that's in no way replaced, and that i doubt that's going to. mothers and dads will consistently be Mummy and Daddy. And particularly by way of fact they gained't respond to the rest from their babies! : )

Do people actually use these words in converation? It's been YEARS since I have heard anyone referred to as either in real life...
Honey, these words are the equivalent to white folks of the "N-word" for African Americans. Both are disrespectful and neither should be used...
