i was reading up on financial aid about the grants and loans and when i was looking at them, they had a number and then a number in parenthesis' that had max next to it. for example: $4,000 ($20,000 max), now is that minimum borrowing and 20,000 max per year or is that 20,000 per 4 years of undergraduate study? and what is the max of a federal pell grant? the brochure I got wasnt too specific.

It depends on the expected family contribution as determined by the government on grants. I am not sure on loans, but the college's financial aid office can answer that one better than me. However, it does not mean that you can't go seek outside scholarships. They can be located at one of two locations. The first is at the college's financial aid office and their website because some colleges do list some private scholarships offered by companies and organizations. The other is free membership scholarship websites.
