History repeats itself and prophecy is oftentimes vague. So when it says: "There will be a war in the holy land..." Well - there are always wars going on in the holy land. That's a given. Anyone who pays attention can make vague predictions of what is going to happen in the future.

Of course another possible idea is maybe humans have an ability for precognition. While it may not be scientifically explainable now - it could be in the future. (Yeah I know - gimme a break - I like X-Men!)

What did the prophets "predict"? Did they say "in the future there will be a war" or "in the year 2001 terrorists will attack the World Trade Center in New York"? There's a difference.

I agree with Blackacre. They probably did the same thing Nostradamus did: Write material that's so vague that you can apply it to anything. But honestly, they're not very good prophets it took them two thousand years to finally get something right.

Foretold what? Usually its something retarded like "An important man of the church will die tragicly," so whenever the church sees someone important die in a tragic way, it must be him and the prophesy was foretold.

Any single bit of "prophesy" is usually crap that can be applied to anyone. Why don't you ask your aunt why didn't the "phophets" foretell electricity, the internet, cars, or traveling to the moon? Or why not foretell again the "evil of evolution" hundreds of years before to keep people from it?

First, the prophecies were selected and edited when the bible was compiled, centuries after Jesus. The people who put the bible together interpreted passages in the light of what had passed, and they selectively chose to drop out stuff that didn't fit. It's not hard to make prophecies fit if you get to revise and edit them after the fact.

Second, many of the prophecies are so vaguely worded that you could interpret just about anything as fulfilling them... kind of like how Nostradamus's quatrains keep getting reinterpreted every few decades to fit current events.

Third, it's clear that biblical prophecy has failed. For one thing, Jesus was never called Emmanuel anywhere in the bible, yet he allegedly fulfilled prophecies that would be fulfilled by someone of that name.

Wars in the middle east? Those are always going on. The prophecies in the bible can be applied to about anything.

God prophesied that Adam would die the day he ate the apple. He ate it and lived 900 years. God is a false prophet.

In Luke Jesus says he will return before the people listening die. are they still alive?

They didn't. The prophesies are written so loosely that each generation felt that they were being fulfilled. For example, if I say that a ruler will appear in the East who will bring terror, it's a safe bet that that could describe someone in the next 1000 years...

Black acre beat me to it, but I can ad one piece of information, Atheists were scribes, and the theroy is that athiests were orginally slaves that knew how to write, and were imployed in this way for historical and religious preposes.

They didn't and don't let anyone rip scriptures out of context and make you think otherwise. Many were written "after" the fact, many claim to be completely fulfilled but when read in context it is clear that they weren't, and the absolute biggest sham is recycling vague prophecies time and time again, etc. End times have been predicted since the beginning by various religions and Christianity is no different. Do not let fear blind you to logic, reason, and more importantly the truth.

Take your time and by all means have a bible. Go ahead and look at some Christian apologetics as well this way you can see who is being more truthful and not trying to fit scripture to what they want it to mean vs. what it really says.
