Smoking causes cell damage that can set the stage for cancer. Some people are blessed with a very efficient system that can keep the precancerous cells in check, some other folks have no resistance to it. The sooner a person quits the sooner the body can begin to repair the damage caused by smoking.

Ignore the cell phone comment, there is no sound scientific proof that cell phones cause cancer. But yes smoking is a bad idea. Why would your friend think it's a good idea to continue smoking after being diagnosed with cancer? He may end up loosing his esophagus if he continues with this bad life style behavior

no. the sooner you quit smoking, the sooner you will be on the road to a healther body and less risk of cancer. Studies show that 6 months after quitting smoking your chances of getting cancer are less than if you were actively smoking still.

No.
No one quite knows what "Activates" the cancer cells.
My wife never smoked, and got cancer. Conversely, I've known smokers who either 1) got cancer while smoking, or 2) never got cancer, smoking or not.
It sounds like you've heard an urban legand spread by people who don't wanna stop smoking.

Quiting smoking is difficult, it is an addiction to nicotine. Once quitting smoking is accomplished the body begins to regenerate . According to US surgeon Generals Report 1988 pp. 39,22 ( search on Goggle) 1 yr after quiting the excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker. More detail can be found in the Report. The chances of getting cancer after quiting decreases. It is the best thing one can do to improve ones health. Best of Luck. You can do it !

i think that perhaps you have heard of people who quit smoking and then came down with cancer. it does seem to happen with some frequency, however, i would venture to guess that they would have had cancer anyway whether they continued to smoke or not.
