I plan to use my car as a part exchange for a new car from a reputable dealer. What paperwork do I need to provide. I have the registration certificate - obviously the tax disc is on the car. I cannot find my latest MOT but it was available online when I purchased my tax disc - will this suffice?
Anything else necessary?

You will need your registration document and your MOT certificate.
If there is more than 1 months worth of tax on the car I would keep the disc and send it into DVLA for a refund.
Also if you have any service history paperwork the garage will want that too.

The V5, the MOT, and usually some real proof of ownership... As the V5 document is not proof of ownership, it is only proof you are the vehicles 'registered keeper' so a reicept or letter from when you purchased the vehicle might be handy too, and proof, if it was bought on credit or H.P, that no payments or credit is outstnading on the vehicle, as an HPI check may be carried out.

MOT and Tax are not 'essential' to the sale, Tax is handy, but a SORN declairation is also available if there is no tax.

The only paperwork required to sell a car (who you sell it to is irrelevant) is a lien free title. In some states a valid inspection certificate may also be required. Yes, of course the buyer is going to inspect the car and then base their offer on the condition of the vehicle.

Since you didn't let anyone know your state, we can't answer the question! Call your DMV and I'm sure you can get your answer.
