Think about this. Let's say all the religions in the world disappeared, and only one remained. Suppose everybody converted to Christianity, or everybody converted to Islam, or to Buddhism, or Hinduism, or Judaism or whatever. We figured out which one was the true religion, so everybody converted to it. What will happen then? Why do you think religion is a social thing? Why isn't it personal? Why do you go to church, or temple, or synagogue? It's because there are other religions in the world, and the society you live in is trying to oppose them. If there was only one religion, you wouldn't go to church anymore. It'll be pointless. What I'm trying to say here, is that organized religions exist only to oppose each other. And that religion is true only when it's personal.
Well, what do you think? Please don't quote the bible or the quran, or any other religious book. Quote only yourself. Thank you.

Interesting question. My first thought was that if everyone were of the same religion and it was a peaceable religion - like Amish, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mennonite, or Quaker - that war could be done away with. But then reality set in.
War could cease for a while - until enough time passed and enough people stopped upholding the principles of whichever religion it was, then it would be history repeating itself.
Although one world religion would no doubt be desirable and unifying in many respects, it would not solve the world's problems. In every religion, there are people who simply don't uphold the principles of their religion. Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, disfellowship tens of thousands people annually because of not living up to their religious principles. I don't know the figures for the other religions, but the same problem exists.
Yet in every religion there are people who DO practice what they preach. They endeavor to be kind, honest and moral - and that is not limited to any one religion.
So while it would be nice if everyone claimed the same religion, it would be nicer if people, whatever religion, lived up to the godly principles that are espoused by religion. Don't all religions preach love, peace and morality?
It would also be nice if money grew on trees.

"What I'm trying to say here, is that organized religions exist only to oppose each other."
No, my friend. It is my humble opinion that organized religions are here as a means to control the masses. Through that control there is great power. Fact is, the biggest thing to wrench power away from organized religion was the separation of church and state. Prior to that taking place, most nations were theocracies. Even the Vatican had an army, a hit squad and spies. Not necessary now as they do not wield the kind of power that they did during the Middle Ages.

you don't want the bible quoted but the bible does predict that during the tribulation the false prophet will set up a one world religion that combines all religions in one which would be destruyed by the anti Christ who will declare himself god and demand that everyone takes his mark or dies, the one religion most likely picked is already around it's New aGe Religion which even adds paganism to it as well as other eastern religions and islam this one world Religion is called in the Bible Babylon the great Harlot. I expect to be inHeaven by then. Doesn't sound too thrilling to me there will be those who fight it from all faiths especially Christians that got left behind because they were right with God at the time and most everyone else and Moslems.

I am going to quote the bible if it is needed. Saying that religion is only true when it's personal is like saying 2+2=4 is only true when it's personal. Christianity is real if you believe it or not.
Religions don't exist to oppoose each other, they exist because they do oppose each other.
Someone, somewhere got mad at what some pastor or preacher said so he/she started a new religion, or denomination.
Religion is not supposed to be a social thing, it is supposed to be a lived, believed and supported thing.

For me, religion is a personal way of life and a guide to living and behaving with family, friends and people of all religion. It completes me and the meaning and purpose of my life and every human being.
If the world existed in which the one true religion was believed in, there would still be differences as there exist in each religion as today. I believe the cause would be because of the devil who took an oath to misguide mankind to cause corruption and war and differences so we will keep fighting for these things and forget why we were created in the first place - to worship none but God and to associate no partners with Him.
I don't know how much you know about Islam but there is alot of misconception in the mind of people. Without quoting my religious books - Islam is the only religion which wants to unite all the people of the world to believe in one God which most major religions already believe except they call Him with different names. But Islam in not a new religion. It began with it's first follower Prophet Adam (peace be upon him). Also, the Quran states that all the prophets (peace be upon him) were sent by God Almighty. And already these prophets (peace be upon them) are believed by the major religions.
If you compare the similarities, you will understand that the Quran was sent to unite the believing people and not to create differences. To guide them so that they may all be closer to God and no other reason.

if there is only one religion in the world then it will be as christians want it. everyone brainwashing children into believing something that isnt an absolute truth. religion would control society, everything we do would be revolved around how our religion is viewed and worked. (we'd take sabbath day more seriously, spend more time praying/worshipping we'd not have a life of our own basically. we'd all be little mindless robots.)

I believe it would be a beautiful place if we only had one religion. I think it would be one big step closer to peace on earth. I feel that if there was only one ethnicity and one religion we would come together as a race as humans. I feel that religion is like language. Regardless of what language you are speaking you still speaking it is just the way you were taught or feel comfortable. I believe that religion is the same, regardless of what religion you choose there is only one god and regardless of what you call your god it is the same god and the religion is just a thing that humans made up to try to understand what higher is out there. I believe no matter how you pray it is to the same god and it is just how you are confterbale communicating to him her or it.

I believe there would be more peace in the world and fewer Bible thumpers trying to prove their religion is the "right" one. I know how to read, I kind of get tired of those who like to quote Scriptures all of the time.

I think you're absolutely right and I agree with you all the way.
I have always believe that religion is a divider not a uniter, and that is the reason why I don't fellow any of the religions out there, but worship god and god alone.

It'll never happen. Jesus said that if you think that he came to bring peace that you would be wrong because he came to bring division--the righteous against the unrighteous. He also posed the question that when he came back "Would there be any Faith left in the world?" He did not mean any by way of any old religion but, meaning correct Faith. So he knew there would never be one correct Faith.
