I was 22 when I joined. There was another recruit at boot who was 31 and he passed just fine. My Mother went to Army boot and passed when she was 34.
Most however join out of high school or shortly thereafter so the average age of those in boot is 18-19 years old.
I think your bigger problem is your attitude if you think a one year difference (18 vs 19) makes you older and wiser than someone just a year your junior.

Most Basic Trainees are between 18 and 23. Some have a little college. Many are just out of High School. You will feel old (or should I just say way more mature) compared your peers the first time you go home on leave and link up with some of your old buddies. By the way, I joined at 17, just six days out of high school and I didn't feel "younger" than my peers. We were all in the same situation.

lol you think you are going to feel old? do you think that in basic training the DS give a sh!t about your age? i was 17 and a Junior in high school when i joined the national guard, and through out basic training i lived among other young soldiers and some that were even mothers of 5+ children and in their mid 30's. guess what during b/t nobody cares and once you get into a unit they probably wont give a damn either. if i were you i would pray you dont need to wear the BC glasses or have to get stuck on fire guard. good luck!!!

Not really, there will be guys older than you going through basic. Some people just decide later than others to join, others have to wait on school. Not everyone can join right at 18, I know I didn't.

A few ages range while in the army.. you aren't feel old, especially compared to someone who is 18.. you were 18 less then a year ago. I doubt you have changed much. You will be fine. Good luck in the army.

Your age is not a problem, you'll fit right in. By the way, "Thank You" for your sacrifice and service to the country. The things you do, the places you go, and the people you meet while in the service will help you to be a more confident and successful individual.

The military loves when older people join. Act mature and use it to your advantage. I was in boot camp at 21. Now I'm in force recon.
Good luck and dont worry so much

First I want to say thank you for risking your life for my freedoms. You truly are to be honored. No about the age thing, when you get in there you will see men and women of all ages. My son attended one year of college and then decided to join the military. He was 20. Good Luck and Godspeed to you.
