I would - you never know it may have owners that miss it . Here's what you can do - take it to a no-kill shelter and they can see if he/she is microchipped. If no one claims them you can go back in a few days and adopt it. That way it may also get some medical treatment it may badly need.

You mention getting 'another' dog... If you currently have dogs in your household, you should keep the pup separated from them until it has been vetted, to avoid communicating diseases.
Since you found the pup 'out on the streets' it is likely that it got lost from home & its current owners are desperately searching for it, or it was neglected & turned loose, in which case you won't likely find out who previously owned the pup.
Since I am sure you would want to be reunited with your puppy if you were in the 1st situation above, take the time to contact the local humane society, pound & police station to notify them of the found pup. (I have relocated dogs with owners through the police 2x, if they aren't sure why you are calling them, simply ask them to take your name & number in case anyone calls about a missing puppy)
Also, local vet clinics will likely have a wand that can scan the puppy for a microchip. If it has one, there will be information on the owners to contact.
It is your choice if you want to keep the puppy at your house or bring it to a local shelter. If you are going to keep the puppy, let all the places you contact have your name & phone number, as well as a description of the puppy so they can refer the owners to you.
If you keep the puppy @ your house - Given the state of health you describe, I would also call your vet to see if they can get the puppy in this weekend for a look-over, and at the very least give you a recommendation on the type & amount of food to start feeding it. You dont want to let it go hog-wild over food if it has been undernourished, as that might be too much for its system. But access to plenty of clean fresh water is never a bad thing.
Thanks for your caring heart, & whether the pup is reunited with its owners or stays with you, I hope everything works out.

Yes, you should look for it's owner. You never know if the dog ran away, or if someone stole it, or what happened. The owners may be missing it, just imagine if it were a child's pet. You would want someone to contact you if your dog were missing.
At the very least you should take it to your local shelter and check for a microchip. Chances are the dog was abandoned, but there are other possibilities to consider as well.
I commend you for picking the poor thing up and taking it home with you though! This world needs more people to do what you have done.

I would notify the local veterinarians. In the meantime, keep and take care of the pup. Take him to a vet for a check-up, shots, and advice on how to get him healthy again. Good luck!!

it would be the right thing to do but if you do not find the owner in about 30 days consider the pup yours! if i were you i would take care of it because it is obviously needing some care & compassion right now. whatever happens good luck to you & the puppy!

i would call your local shelter and report that you found what appears to be a malnourished, uncared for puppy and they will advise you, and if you do this they may be able to find out who the owners was or are and bring up charges of animal cruelty and unfitness. good luck, would be happy to know what you found out.

I think it's up to you, and if you take it to a pound or something, make sure it's not one that puts the animals to sleep after a couple of days

It sounds like he was abandoned, or lost for a long time..Just call all area shelters to make sure no one is looking for him..
I hope it works out that you are his forever home...be sure to have him wormed, as any dog abandoned will not be wormed or vaccinated..
do this right after you call shelters and learn that no one has reported him missing..
