The genetics of cat coloration is very complicated and not at all predictable. Probably the father cat had genes for the white and grey and the mother had them too - what you call recessive genes. When two recessive genes "get together" they are expressed which means you can see them.
My mother had brown eyes, my father blue. The brown eye gene is dominant. So my father had two blue eyed genes and my mother had a recessive one for blue. I and my brother both have blue eyes.

Cats come in all sorts of different colors. Either they had different fathers or somewhere in the family history is a gray and white cat.

A mama cat can have a litter of kittens from several different fathers. That is why the kittens sometimes don't look alike. Unless she is an inside cat and have only one male impregnated her.

My gray & white momma cat had a litter of 1 black and the rest of them were gray, the dad was black. those colors are genetically close. like how orange and calico cats are that color in a single litter.

well i can't tell you for sure but somewhere along the line he got that trait so it is very possible. have you ever seen a punnet square where they take the genetic traits from the mom & dad & you can see that if they have a baby their traits will be passed along? well the same thing applies here

it has to do with recessive genes. If all the kittens were from the same litter, then yes, there is only one father.
