Hi I'm studying a subject at uni that I find really interesting and I kind of enjoy learning about it. And yet when it comes to doing the assignments I get quite anxious and start feeling sorry for myself. Am I just being lazy due to being out of my comfort zone or could it be something more? Does anyone else experience this or am I weird?

I would say it is a form of laziness, but also because nowadays everything happens with a switch of a button... so when you know that you have to put a lot more effort into something you tend to get into that laissez-faire attitude/mode and you start doubting yourself that you are capable. I always tell my son that when he is given an assignment- it's something that is doable... to challenge you to step up to the plate.
Have you heard about the Donkey story, yet? I'll tell you the story right now: A donkey fell into a well. The donkey cried and cried and felt sorry for himself... he thought he was sure to die. The people who passed by the well heard him and his owner was called to come and decide what to do. The owner thought for a second and told everyone to get their shovels and fill up the well- since the donkey was old and the well was supposed to be filled up anyway. While the people threw dirt shovel by shovel into the well... the donkey shaked the dirt off and stepped up... and he continued doing this- until he reached the top... and walked off.

Isn't that a wonderful story? Shake it off... whatever causes your anxieties and be more like the donkey... use every challenge that comes your way as a chance to step up.

From what you've given, it sounds like you may be "interested" in the discussion of the class and its concepts, but you are not willing to sit down and do the more tedious work with the assignments. You aren't "weird." You just feel like many people do when it comes to working with paperwork and books. It's more enjoyable for most people to discuss the ideas presented in class, as opposed to doing the exercises associated with the homework phase of a course. Just know that if you are going to be successful in the course that you enjoy, you must buckle down and do the paper work. If you put effort into it, you will broaden your understanding of the course and find yourself dreading the work a little less each time. You can do the work. Good luck with your studies.

Sounds like you have too m uch time to think about your own problems. How about doing some voluntary work, or at least something that takes your mind off yourself and how much work you have to do, so that you're 'getting out there' once a week. Then leave the rest of your time for your studies (as well as basic needs of food, sleep, socialising etc). You just have to get on with it and do it, even if you feel anxious. Sorry!

If you get anxious every time you sit down to work I think you have a block there. For example, are you afraid of success? Are you afraid of failure so do not bother just in case you can not do it? Are you afraid of getting higher marks than you brothers/sisters? Did someone say something that you have forgotten which makes it easier if you do not try? These are suggestions, please talk it over with your uni counsellor to find the real reason.

Could be some form of panic attack, or it could be something else, do you have any other problems you have not linked to it?
I have fibromyalgia and I use to be a benefit officer, I just thought I was stress or depressed. I wrote ALL my symptoms down and saw my GP. I did not relate the pains in my neck, all over chronic body pains, waking up unrefreshed ect... I thought I was just lazy and hasseled with work, yet it was a job I had always wanted to do. Write down ALL your symptoms even what you consirder unrelated and go to your GP, they may offer you some kind of help.
Hope you get it sorted soon and best wishes with your couse.

did doing assignments in HS cause you anxiety as well? its one thing to learn a subject; quite another to do homework... to show what you know...

when a subject hits you that really speaks to your soul, doing assignments won't even feel like a chore let alone cause anxiety because when the labor is of love, homework is just another change to be with your love

however, that being said , reality is that most of the subjects in higher ed won't affect us that way so we gotta plod through to get from here to there.... you said you find it interesting and that you kind of enjoy learning about it.... that, my friend, is a step ahead already... imagine if you hated it and weren't interested *smile*

in the words of a wise old friend.... just suck it up... keep your eyes on your goals ... JUST DO W.I.T!... Just Do What.It.Takes :)
keep your eye on the prize... I can do this... I can get through this assignment... develop a track record with yourself and in time, with practice, you should be able to break your pattern

good luck with it :)

I don't think your lazy or going mad. It is the pressures you have placed on yourself that is causing you anxiety. Plan your study times a little better and improve, if you can, the atmosphere in which you study. Try and install a methodology of enjoyment to the knowledge you are gaining and use that enjoyment to drive you. Sorry to disapoint you but you are just "Normal".

all people who're "sluggish" do have a incapacity. it ought to not be a considerable incapacity, even though it quite is a incapacity none-the-much less. a guy or woman who's some distance or nearsighted and wears glasses has a incapacity even nevertheless maximum people who positioned on glasses do not think of of themselves as disabled. a guy or woman who has a not common time reading or information what they examine has a incapacity. the quicker we as a rustic settle for that almost anybody has a incapacity of a few type, the quicker we are able to attend to those who warfare with greater not common disabilities with greater suitable compassion.

You've linked stress from assignments and anxiety yourself, its quite a normal response as far as I can see. My advice would be to do a little work on a v. regular basis so the stress doesn't get built up.
