I have heard from 11 pm to 5 am; also have heard any time after dark. Any insights??

Funny answer above (Vanamont7), but to answer your question, Yes the mosquitos are most active from 10 PM to 7 AM. Site below confirms this information along diseases carried by the Mosquito and a chart that explains the transfer.

This is true. Most of the Anopheles start biting human around the sunset when people get back home. As a matter of fact at this time the mosquitoes are at their peak activity and keep trying to bite humans during night. That's why it is important to make sure that the mosquitoes are not inside home when households go to bed.
