Buy a tick hook from a farm shop. Slid it over the tick, twist it three times and pull it out. It doesn't hurt the cat and the hooks are specially designed for this job. the twisting of the hook ensures that the whole tick comes out. If you do not twist it you will leave the head inside the cat which can cause infection. The hooks are not expensive to buy either. Do not use tweezers to pull it out as you will leave the head inside the cat. Once removed their is no risk of bleeding and the tick will not thin the cats blood. I also wouldn't recommend putting a hot match any where near the tick as you could burn the cat too. Also the match would only need to be smoldering slightly and it could set alight to your cats fur. BIG VET BILL, not to mention the pain to your cat! Vasaline will work but you have to make sure the tick is totally smothered and no air can get to the tick so that it will suffocate. It is not as easy as it sounds. Also, once the tick is removed be careful to get rid of it properly as they will attach themselves to humans too.

Warm some vegatable oil to about the point of scalding and let it cool just a bit. With an eydropper or q-tip, place a drop on the tick. It will not kill it but will make it loosen its grip on the flesh and then you can grab (tweezers) and remove the tick without risk of leavig its teeth embeded and lead to possible infection.

WELL THE ADVICE I HAVE FOR YOU IS TRY USING DISHWASHING LIQUID. I KNOW THAT HELPS TO KILL FLEAS ON CONTACT BUT IM NOT TOO SURE ABOUT TICKS. A MOTHER CAT HAD KITTENS IN OUR STORAGE ROOM AND WE KEPT THE KITTENS BUT WHEN WE GAVE THEM THEIR FIRST BATH THEY WERE LITERALLY I MEAN LITERALLY SWARMED WITH FLEAS ALL OVER THEIR BODY SO WE CALLED A VET AND SHE TOLD US TO USE DISHWASHING LIQIUD WITHOUT DILOUTING IT. BUT IN YOUR CASE ITS TICKS SO I JUST SUGGEST GETTING A TWEEZER AND TWEEZING IT OFF. BUT IF THERE ARE TICKS ON THE CAT COMING IN YOUR HOUSE AND IT LIVES OUTSIDE MOST LIKELY YOUR CAT HAS TICKS ALSO. BUT WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING A CAT IF YOU LET IT COME AND GO AS IT PLEASES?? YOU DONT KNOW WHERE THE CAT GOES OR WHAT IT HAS BEEN IN SO EITHER WAY ....THATS A NASTY SITUATION..

Take the cat to the Vet, they have a dip that they use and it kills the ticks and they will come out on their own, if you pull them you will cause your cat severe pain and infection.
