There are air compressors for the doors and vacuum pumps for the brakes. They have to keep the pressure up (or down) as necessary

When there are no trains in front of you but you still hear this is an echo.

Do you know what that is? Its when solid walls all around you bounce sound back and forth its because there are litle to no opennings in the tube stations other than the tunnels and the exits.

it a mechanical thing. Must keep working even when not moving.
