Should it be taught in schools alongside standard English? Why or why not?

Absolutely not. It is not a language - it was tried already to get it into schools in California - the most liberal state in the world - and even they rejected it. It should Never be brought up again as true Americans are just not interested. Thanks

No, not as a "proper" variation form because it is part of a cultural heritage and geographical group. Different parts of the country have their own little tweaks, drawls, creole, twangs etc. Certain words and phrases will eventually be recognized as a part of standard English. That's how our language evolved and is still evolving. I think we have enough to do in school with improving our basic skills in reading, writing, spelling and punctuation without trying to teach another variation of the language. I'm sure I've many of those mistakes already in this post! People should be proud of their ethnic heritage and work to keep language and traditions alive, but at some point we have to come together and have one common standard for things like language.

No. Simply because it is not standard or proper. It is a slang. If we teach this, then where do we stop. Should spanglish be taught? Those that speak ebonics should be accept the queens english (yes, I am an American living in America) as proper and stop raising issues that continue to separate and cause conflict. What is wrong with english? Just plain old english.

Good Lord, no! The last things those kids need is a MADE UP language created purely to set them apart from the rest of society. Ebonics speakers come across as dumber than dirt, which is how future emplyers and communites will view them. In the classes I've worked in, Ebonics is only allowed during lunch and recess. Otherwise, we expect them to use "standard" English.

If you're trying to be funny... f'gee'rahhh'bow it! First you have teachers that can't teach because the standards have been lowered and all sorts of rules and regulations added and more holidays and days off for the teachers that can't even speak Standard American English... and our high school graduates can't read or write well enough to fill out a job application... sheesh... how's that going to help them?

Here's an example for you: Armageddon. Armageddon my butt outta here rat now!

You've got to be kidding. It's not English, it's ebonics. That would be a sad day if they consider that crap English.

No, and no.
Ebonics is an excuse by professors and journalists in a "publish or perish" situation to keep their jobs while writing about a non-entity.

I think Bill Cosby had it right when he referred to it as "crap." Here's a snippet of his speech:

"Everybody knows it’s important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can’t land a plane with “why you ain’t…” You can’t be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth."

No, because NONE of the words are even REAL words. If the schools start teaching that, I will homeschool my boys. I don't even let my boys talk like their friends, so when they get to college, they will not have to adjust their vocabulary.

It should be taught and recognized when it's okay for a white guy to say, "MyNigga".
