Very small! IV's are nothing compared to spinal tap or marrow biopsy needles (those are huge and hurt really bad!)

They come in all sizes, depending on the size of the person and the type of fluid. A needle for an infant will be very tiny. An adult receiving certain types of chemotherapy needs a larger needle because the liquid is very thick.

IV catheters come in various sizes. Two parameters must be considered, gauge and length. Gauge refers to the external diameter of the catheter, with smaller gauges (e.g. 14 ga) representing larger diameters than larger gauges (e.g. 20 ga).

Theres a great website below that has pictures and more info on the sizes.

Very small. They come in different sizes. The largest that I have used was about as big around as the lead of a pencil, but that was in the case of horrible car wrecks when the patients were bleeding terribly. Then, the tiniest ones were not much bigger around than a dozen strands of hair.

The word is needle. I'm not quite sure how to answer this. They come in various sized gauges (circumferences). It depends on the vein and the purpose of the IV therapy. Suffice it to say, they are necessarily small. It would help me to know why you are asking. I would then be able to address this specifically.

There are different sizes. If your gonna have an IV and your worried, have the nurse put on a Local Patch to numb the back of your hand.

IV needles range in size from 14ga to 24 ga. Now there are larger and smaller needles, however those are not normally IV needles.

there are different sizes. that said, it also depends on
whether you are looking at it or feeling it shoved into
your vein. i'll swear the one the nurse showed me
was 1/10th the size of the one she used.

It does depend on where it is going to be. Have you ever had your blood drawn? They are about the same size.
