Does the Bible say how the DNA in that rib was changed from XY (male) to XX (female)? Any modern Biblical theories to explain this? Or is this just another of those "can't understand God" things?

ladyfraser04: many true point, but if Eve was "created" from Adam, she would have to be a genetic clone. For those of you who don't know what that means (i.e. peachy770), look it up. Obviously, everyone so far missed the point, which is: the Bible is B.S.

Since DNA wasn't really discussed scientifically until pretty much the past century, no, this book written for people to be able to understand it from between 18 and 50 centuries ago or so, does not talk about DNA.
But if you study gender and biology and sex, you'll find that human beings actually have a wide variation on the X and Y chromosome combinations. XX, XY, XXY, XXYY etc. , so changes in DNA composition and gender from generation to generation have clearly happened from time to time.
Interesting side note: The word translated "rib" may also have been translated as the name for the uppermost piece of a door frame on certain styles of ancient dwelling, from what I understand; though that seems to be pretty clearly NOT the translated word in question when talking about bodies!
And the other possible translation for the word that has been translated as 'rib' in Genesis? "Womb!!!" Adam may have been hermaphroditic or intersexed until God divided 'him' into two complementary genders. WHOA......

You cannot take everything in the Bible literally. How could there have only been two people to start. The genetic base would be too small. Also the Bible talks about Cain's wife. If the only other woman on the planet was Eve, his mother , who was Cain's wife?

For that fact, how did God turn a pile of clay into Adam in the first place? How did He say "let there be light" and there was light? Some questions are not meant to be answered.
This could be classified as one of the benefits of being ommnipotent (all powerful). It would be easy to change DNA that you created in the first place.

Job 38:1-4 And Jehovah proceeded to answer Job (Ann_Tykre)out of the windstorm and say:
2 “Who is this that is obscuring counsel
By words without knowledge?
3 Gird up your loins, please, like an able-bodied man, (Woman)
And let me question you, and you inform me.
4 Where did you happen to be when I founded the earth?
Tell [me], if you do know understanding.
5 Who set its measurements, in case you know,
Or who stretched out upon it the measuring line?
6 Into what have its socket pedestals been sunk down,
Or who laid its cornerstone,
7Â When the morning stars joyfully cried out together,
And all the sons of God began shouting in applause?

Perhaps its the God thing that is throwing you? He is God for crying out loud...Do you think that Adam had the DNA of the ground he was taken from? believe it or not there was no female DNA before we had females....has this crossed your mind at all? More than likely Adams DNA came after his creation too.

It's a creation myth. Christianity needed an origin. It's not scientific. Do some research on other creation myths and ancient history. It's really interesting.
