Generally, people drive aggressively and are in a hurry. They overestimate their abilities and aren't adequately aware of their surroundings. The biggest cause of all is distraction - changing a radio station, answering a cell phone, trying to eat while driving, etc.

Inattention to other drivers, talking on the phone, putting on makeup, reading, chaning the radio station, falling asleep at the wheel, intoxication, drugs, speeding. Believe it or not, according to a video I watched during a training class, more accidents occur in good weather than in rainy weather. The insurance institute believes it is because people relax, roll down the windows, crank up the radio, and are paying little attention to the surroundings.
