Ever feel when things get a little hectic, (like lots of phone calls, from friends, family and business) that you just don't wanna deal? I don't answer my cell phone most of the time, cuz I just don't feel like talking and just would rather be alone and in the quiet. Does anyone ever feel the same way? This has been happening very often. Like when someone socializes with me in person, or on the phone, I can't wait for the small chit chat to be over... Is this normal?

Yup, I usually cringe when my cell phone rings and it's someone other than my boyfriend, sister or parents. I don't mind talking to those 4 people, but when others call I often don't feel like answering the phone. I definitely enjoy being by myself, although I like to hang out with friends at least once a week. And I hate small talk.. it seems so pointless sometimes. I had a customer at work once get mad at me over the phone because he said "hi, how are you?" and I said "Good!" but did not add "and how are you." lol!

This is normal, I feel the same way after a long days work. I let the phone ring and sit with the door closed so no one will bother me. You just want some alone time and there is nothing wrong with this.

Hello! That's perfect, I do love it..although married and w/2kids, I reallllllly enjoy moments alone, laying down, doing nothing, no phone calls, no people around, just me and music... Avoiding unnecesary talk, or noise, or words...

Have you ever tryed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality tests?
http://www.personalitypage.com/home.html (well in this one you have to pay something, you look for a free test... )

(nice explanatory page though, you can keep looking later on)

there are introvert types and extrovert types as well.. I am a proud INTP! :) And understanding my type is easier for me to understand others that may love noise, and etc!!

It's a different kind of normal. You are what is called introverted, meaning after you interact you need time alone to re-charge. In the U.S., outgoing, aggressive personalities are valued more than the introverted so you might feel abnormal sometimes. There are plenty of introverted people in the U.S., though, so you're not alone.

You are perfectly normal.

With today's crazy hectic lifestyles, we all need time to chill out. Lots of times, I don't even answer my phone and let the voice mail get it. Sometimes, if someone knocks on my apartment door, I don't even answer that!

YES JENNA I FEEL LIKE THAT QUITE OFTEN, THAT'S WHY I DON'T HAVE A CELL PHONE, SOMETIMES I JUST LIKE TO LAY ON THE BED AND WATCH TV BY-MYSELF. I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL. JENNA YOU ARE VERY NORMAL, SOMETIMES YOU GET OVERWHELMED WITH THINGS AND YOU JUST WANT EVERYONE TO LEAVE YOU ALONE, SO YOU CAN COLLECT YOUR THOUGHT IN PEACE IN QUIET.
