The cheapest for me is India where the standard of living is so low and it means that you can do lots of thing compare to the dollars. The food is marvellous and people is charming. But one things is for sure you have to leave your hearth at home as you will see lot of misery there and also lot of dust and dirt. Apart from that Indian is a very colorful place to visit. What I had like with my trip over there is that as soon you move from one place to another everything change completely the human aspect, like color ,size, style of clothes and also in there food.

If yopu go there you enjoy it very much and give it a try you'll see.

Morocco 1999. Cab fare across Fez, Marrakhesh, Casablanca, or Tangier was less than US$0.50. Fulll suites were about $50. Licensed personal guide for a day was $25. Unlicensed guide was $12 for a full day. Souvenirs were cheap if you enjoy haggling over prices. I usually paid between 1/3 and 1/2 of original asking price. Some of my favorite souvenirs are from there, rugs, copper plates and tables, etc. We hired a horse and buggy with driver for $6 for a half day.

Mexico, even today, is quite inexpensive if you stay away from the tourist cities. One of my favorites is San Miguel de Allende but it's growing more expensive quite rapidly. Touring Mayan ruins get you into out of the way places with acceptable private lodging and private baths for as little as $20 per room for a couple. Some rather nice hotels can be found for $20-30/night also. Lots of inexpensive souvenirs can be found in Mexico. We particularly like Huichol art and Talaveras pottery. It is quite common to find internet access for $1/hour or even less. Groceries, dining out, etc,. are very cheap, even if you stay away from the sidewalk stands.

I think if you really hunt around for cheap flights you might get lucky. Also, stay away from London, and a lot of the south, for that matter- e.g. Up north where I live £5 will get you a full english breakfast, but in London it'll get you a latte lol. Again it does depend on what you want to do here. There are cheap places to stay if you look at hostels or some B&B's, it's worth avoiding mid-season to keep the costs down

Argentina. I'm travelling at a good time, because the British pound is so strong against a lot of world currencies. Argentina's economy crashed in 2001, meaning that it is very cheap down there, and my pound goes further. Everything I found in Buenos Aires was about 20% of the price I would pay in Britain. Example, a one litre bottle of bacardi would cost about £15 in Britain. In Argentina (with spirit tax included) it cost around £6.

Malaysia, went in March and exchange rate made everything about 1/4 the price of what I would pay in US Dollars. Food, accommodations, and travel in-country was inexpensive (comparatively) for the great quality. Air flight to get there was expensive though.

ummm 15 quid (english pounds) is alot of money to spend on a meal in Argentina,

anyways the cheapest place i went to is indonesia (bali, lombok), it's like 50 cents for a packet of smokes, i got 5 pancakes for breakfast for like $1AU and a small bottle of sprite for like 30 cents. I also got very cheap software there too.

Depends on what you've got to spend. I had pounds when I backpacked round south america and Equador (then) as as cheap as dirt since, tihngs have changed and it is not so. Neighbouring countries such as Peru and Bolivia still remain cheap to any tourists though.
