Once upon a time, they were tax collectors for the prohibitive taxes on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, NONE of which should have been taxed in a free society. Adults should be free to drink, smoke and defend themselves without being penalized by the government. Now, of course, they have evolved into ANOTHER of the many federal law enforcement branches designed to keep the sheeple of the Uneutered States in control.
