Viruses are made by viruses, not from human activity. Virsuses infect cells and change the cells to be factories for more virsuses.

The only way to catch a virus is through direct contact with someone or something that already has the virus in the first place.

HIV was not created when someone had sex with a monkey. That's silly. It is believed, however, that the Simian (monkey) version of HIV was first contracted by humans who made a practice of eating monkeys in the wild. Alternatively, some believe the virus came about through polio vaccination in Africa that depended on infected monkey tissues to grow the vaccine. The virus later mutated to a form that was transmissable through human-to-human contact.

Two people, who are not infected, do not pass on viruses, no matter what they do with each other.

it wasn't "made". No one knows where it exactly came from. Researchers now believe AIDs/HIV began infecting people in the 1920s. As transportation improved (airplanes, more people traveling to remote islands and jungles) people some how picked up this virus and brought it back and began to spread it to other people. There are actually people who have been infected with AIDs but never develop symptoms because there body doesn't have receptor sites to receive the virus. Only maybe 2 people have been studied on PBS that never got sick from HIV/AIDs. They have been studied because researchers hope that if they understand why these 2 men didnt develop AIDs/HIV then maybe they can develop a vaccine some day.
Just dont sleep around, always get tested for STDs (have to specifically ask the dr to test you for HIV/AIDs), always use a condom even if you THINK you know the person well, and avoid touching blood, semen, vagina fluids, or any other body fluids (except sweat) from another human.

It is a very common misconception that you can only contract AIDS/HIV from homosexual intercourse. Of course you can develop the virus this way. You may also receive it through needles or sometimes, very rarely blood transfusions. You cannot get it from kissing, unless there is an open sore in the mouth and blood is made contact. The first human known to be infected with HIV was a man from Kinshasa in the nearby country of Congo who had his blood stored in 1959 as part of a medical study, decades before scientists knew the AIDS virus existed. Many species of chimps carry a similar virus to our HIV called SIV or simian immunodeficiency virus.

Presumably, someone in rural Cameroon was bitten by a chimp or was cut while butchering one and became infected with the ape virus. That person passed it to someone else.

The Sanaga River long has been a commercial waterway, for transporting hardwood, ivory and other items to more urban areas. Eventually, someone infected made it to Kinshasa. Somewhere in all that spread, the virus became more deadly to people than it is to chimps, who seldom are bothered much by SIV.

Thus, leading to the 25 year-in pandemic we are now in.

To add to Veralascivious' answer, you CAN contract HIV by having anal sex with a person who has HIV, among other ways.

HIV is transmitted from one person to another by way of sharing bodily fluids - most specifically blood. Drug users who share needles, for example, are at high risk of transmitting the virus. Anal sex is also high risk, due to the fact that it often creates small tears in the anus that allow for semen and blood to mix. Vaginal sex is another risk, for the same reason, although a slightly smaller risk, as tears are not so common.
