I cook dinner for our family almost every night ... cooking time is my time to relax and get things done ... everyone sits at the kitchen table together ... my daughter helps set the table ... we turn the t.v. off .. no cell phones .. and the radio on ... we enjoy Bob Marley while we grub on some food ... afterwards my BF & daughter help clean up ... !
It's not like that every night ... but if I'm cooking dinner for the family .. I want it to be together ... period ... and that's the way I feel it should be ... we get a chance to sit down as a family and talk to each other ... give each other some one on one attention ... it's also a great time for me to teach my daughter about good table manners ... you don't see too many kids these days that can handle a trip to a fancy restaurant like my 4 year old can ... growing up we were always so busy it was fast food, or take out every night ... I wanted to give my daughter that special bonding time I think a family gets while having dinner together ... !

OMG... You are talking about your immediate family right? I have 6 kids and my Fiance. We eat every meal together. They are never at a certain time though?. With careers and kids schedules we have to be very flexible. The 2 older kids are now in college but the younger 4 always eat with us at a sit down table type meal.

Unfortunatley, I think most families are just like yours. I am a 37 yr old mom of 2 (divorced) when I was married and the kids were young we always ate together at the table. That pretty much ended when they were about 12.
I could blame that on any number of excuses, for my sake just use your imagination ok? Now it gets cooked, grab a plate and eat in front of the t.v. Hey at least we are in the same room right?

My family and I always had every meal together. Even though my children are grown and living on their own, I still invite them over for meals and we sit at the table. Awhile back my son brought a friend over for dinner and we all sat at the table. His friend commented that this was nice, growing up him and his family never ate meals together.

My family usually eats together. However, with everyone's crazy schedule it's sometimes difficult.
If it bothers you that your family doesn't maybe you should suggest having one meal a week together and just see how things work out.

We try to at least have 2 meals together a week. It is a time to talk and chatch up on what is going on in each others lives. Everyone is so busy, it is good to stop every once in a while and just hang out!

My immediate family eats together 3-4 times a week.
(there are 7 of us)
My extended family (gma/pa, cousins, aunts, uncles) all gather once a month for dinner, (There are 24 of us)
Its sad no one has dinner together anymore!

Yes, only dinner though. We never have eaten breakfast during the week together and only eat breakfast together on vacations or weekend days that we go out for breakfast, same with lunch.

Families should always eat together. It's is a communication time and bonding time. Families who don't are much less bonded than families that do...that's a fact!
