Chances are very good that North Korea will never follow through with such a threat. Our national defense, a system sometimed referred to as Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D.), basically states that, while it is possible for some other countries to blow the United States off the map, we have enough nuclear power to more-or-less destroy the world. So any country that drops an atomic explosive on us is guaranteed to be destoyed. Most people, hopefully even Kim Jong Il, aren't prepared to condemn their home countries, much less all human life, just to see America destroyed. That's why, after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, atomic weapons have not been used in war. If they ever are... homo sapiens had better be prepared for premature extinction.

I can't help but wonder if N.Korea is trying to push the USA into a first strike.
Considering the amount of attention Iraq has gotten,i think N.Korea wants the US to strike and then say the bomb was not nuclear,it may be a twisted way to gain attention, but i wouldn't put it past them.

actual North Korea is stuffed with uncommon earth minerals which would be worth greater suitable than oil. Plus we invaded Iraq with the aid of sanctions violations. WMD's become in simple terms icing on the cake we aren't invading North Korea with the aid of treaties that promise we would not reignite the Korean conflict from it quite is chilly give up fireplace status right into a warm one. they could desire to instigate it. That and there's a much better threat to South Korea if we invade than to any united states as quickly as we invaded Iraq.

Even a madman like Kim Jong Il knows that we can swat him like a fly at a moments notice. However I'd love to be wrong on this and see him come after us. A huge mushroom cloud over Pyongyang would be a pleasant sight indeed.

Its pretty clear that they are trying to coax us into some concessions. They have a couple of things to gain A) free money and goods- the american taxpayer gives lots of money to idiots like this B) Help secure his regime. American acknowledment legitimizes him. This is why we dont do unilateral talks.

No, if they get aggressive, China will step in. The truth is, we don't want to really upset China and they don't want to really upset us. Korea is an annoyance to both nations who have learned economic prosperity is where its at...

Personally I think they are all talk and not action. I think that their country is going to be to scared to go up against the US after what happened to them in WW2.
