They are usually the 2 you have sign as witnesses. The maid of honor is usually the one who throws the shower and the best man the bachelor party.

You do not need to have a maid of honor and a best man, you can just have bridesmaids and groomsmen if you want to. The maid of honor and the best man are the ones who usually serve as the witnesses on your marriage certificate so you will just need to decide which of your maids and men you wish to serve as witnesses when it comes time to sign.

Legally, you need two witnesses. Usually they are the Maid of Honour and Best Man. You could have the first bridesmaid and the first groomsmen do this - if you just object to the "titles".

You don't need anything you don't want. The purpose of the MOH and the best man is to provide help with planning the wedding, and give support to the bride and the groom, respectively, before the wedding. MOH will usually help you make arrangements like flowers, catering, decorations, will help you shop for your dress, and will throw a bridal shower. You absolutely don't "have" to have them, you can arrange your wedding any way you want. We didn't have any bridesmaids or groomsmen at our wedding at all, I wanted it to be as simple as possible, so we did away with most of the "traditional" stuff. It is really a personal decision.

You usually pick a maid of honor as sort of a tribute to your best friend. You dont have to because its YOUR day. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. If you have a clear best friend, then you can honor her by giving her a special position in your bridal party. She would traditionally be in charge of your wedding shower, your bachelorette party, and anything else you need help with. If you have a lot of close friends, you may not want to have a maid of honor as someone may get her feelings hurt. Either way, I wish you the best in your marriage and a beautiful wedding!

The maid of honor and best man are titles granted usually close family or best friends, but don't you and your man have best friends you want to have such an honor placed on him and her. Do your wedding the way you want, but I don't see the point of why you posted a question here debating whether to have a maid of honor and best man.

Best man is the person who makes the toast at the wedding reception. Maid of honor is in charge of straightening your dress when you are at the alter getting married and holding your bouquet. You need to designate one person as each if you are having a bridal party.

As far as I can tell, the only special things about the Best Man and Maid of Honor is that they hold rings, bouquets, etc. and sign your marriage license as the two official witnesses. And up in Canada, they often have someone else do that.

I say do it your way! I hear so many horror stories about hurt feelings and other stuff that I'm considering having my brother and my guy's sister stand up for us and leave it at that. (Assuming he likes that idea, of course!)

First of all, they are your "formal witnesses" at your wedding. They will sign the document saying they witnessed the wedding. Then als they are the ones who are supposed to help ypu and your hubby-to-be with the errands during your wedding day. They are just simply assigned to those things
