I have recently put two cats together. My moms cat who is 3 years old and my cat who is year 1/2. Neither of them have ever been around another cat. I thought it was going to be awful, but really it turned out to be great! They play together all the time and seem much happier then they were before. I would just make sure you have two litter boxes. Cats don't really like to share their bathroom. I would also keep the cats seperated at first. Put the new cat in your bedroom for a few days so it starts to get a feel for the place and let your other cat see it every now and then. it;s a slow process if you don't want them to attack each other. it will work out well if you take it slow. good luck!!!

I have a little tabby cat and even though I am at home all day long I wondered if I should get another kitten for company for her. Then she had a kind of nervous breakdown (I think she was frightened by the window cleaner!) When I took her to the vet to get medication to help her over her nervousness I asked about getting another cat and the vet said it would obviously be better to wait until she was better, but there was no reason not to. When she was about 11 months old I got a twelve week old male kitten, and he was an instant success. She has fun bossing him around and he has fun chewing on her ears. They play together quite happily and she completely stopped shaking and is far less timid. I think you are probably better to get another kitty while yours is still young and as long as they are fairly similar in temperament, it should be fine. You do hear horror stories about cats trying to tear lumps out of each other but if they are both young and you are careful to treat them both in a similar way, then there shouldn't be any problems. Good Luck!

I think it's better to have two cats. I had one for a long time and she always seemed so lonely. I got a little boy kitten about two years ago and now the always have each other if I'm not around. It's always good for a pet to have a buddy too. I would, however, suggest getting a male cat they tend to get along better no matter what the gender is of the cat you already own. Two girl cats always seem to not get along as well as two boys or even a boy and a girl. Unlike dogs female cats seem to be more territorial then male ones, at least in my experience.

It depends - one is better in one sense as your bond with your cat will be much stronger if you have only one, however if you have two then on the terrible day when you lose one of them you will not be left totally alone.
I don't really think it makes a lot of difference from the cat's point of view. They are solitary animals not pack animals.
If it were me I would keep to just one as long as I had a dog or a husband or a child, but if I lived alone with the cat I would get a second one, because I never want to go through again losing the only person I have in the world.

I would reccomend it as long as you get one of the opposite sex. They will fight for territory anyway and the male will usually win. They need to know where they stand with each other. Cats need company. I found this out when I got another cat and my big (male) cat's behaviour completely changed from dominant angry male to a wierd kind of angry father.
Ensure you read up on the psychology of introducing another cat to your home first as its really important to make the resident cat feel even more special at this time. Do it though, it's fascinating to watch them interact whilst getting to know each other. Don't be afraid, most of the time they will find a way to live together quite happily and even if they don't show it at first, they will come to appreciate the company in time.

Just the one.
Firstly, cos the first cat may not want another cat around, mine didn't and went into deep depression, feeding time was a nightmare, had to lock up the new cat so she could eat. She refused to eat if he was around.
Then there's cleaning the litter tray. Ugh, you have to clean it nearly every day with 2 cats.
Then there's the hoovering, all those cat hairs!
Then there are the vet bills, once they start getting on a bit and need care or antibiotics or whatever, heck those bills! One month I paid about £500!

That would be wonderful for her (and you too I think). She is young enough to enjoy playing with another kitten her age. Get a young neutered male cat as that would be the best match. Young kittens will be scarce now for about four or five months anyway and one about her age would be perfect!

i think it would be nice for your cat to have another playmate as such cats can get very lonely they need a friend to keep themselves active and if your cat has been spayed then it doesn't matter which sex cat u get either but preferably get another cat of around they same age as when i got new cats my older cat didn't like them so they always end up scrapping

cats love company. it's best that you get a male cat as females don't always get on whether they are spayed or not. go to you local animal welfare and adopt a cat that you think will get on with your kitten. the staff will be able to give you lots of advice.

We had one and she seemed to need a friend so we got another and they just love each other. Of course or idiot neighbors tossed out there cat and it had babies so we ended up with another one but they are really warming up to him too.
