I wore my rings for 6 months with no problems. Now after my skin heals, I put them back on and get the same rash and open sores. I have put them on my right finger and the same thing happens. I have had the rings cleaned several times. Help!!! I want to be able to wear my rings! They are 18 ct. white gold.

Gold rings are not pure gold or they would be too soft. They contain nickel, and you have probably developed an alergy to that. Some people had the same problem with gold ear rings.

You might be able to get the rings lined with something to prevent direct contact with the skin. That might help.

I have long known that I have a nickel allergy. Here's a few examples of me pushing limits and not... 1 if a ring is not actual silver, typically I'm irritated. 2 cheap chains you can get at a craft store, instant red "proof marks" on my neck...much worse if I am warm. Wore something to a party for about 3 hours. Felt a little itchy that night. Next day, you could see the evidence. Lasts a couple days. 3 have an Italian charm bracelet and two charms are nickel so I'll see a few bumps on my wrist the next day. 4 I tend not to wear rings in the summer for 2 reasons...swelling and sweat. Whether you get anything under your ring or not, if it's too close to your skin constantly, there's no breathing, you'll get irritated. Sweat doesn't help this. My gold ring (18k) does this without a doubt.

I have the exact same problem! My ring is yellow gold though. And I wore it for over a year with no problems at all. I think what happened was that I gained weight, which made the ring tighter and then switched job to a job where I was washing my hands a lot more. I think that's how it started. However, I had my ring resized larger and that helped a bit, but I still can't wear my ring for long periods of time. It is SO frustrating. I totally sympathize. I rarely wear my ring anymore and I do miss it.

Sounds like you're allergic to the metal; whether it's gold or platinum or silver. My husband is allergic to gold and cannot wear necklaces or rings or anything -- he has the same type of reaction. He has to wear a silver ring. My son on the other hand is allergic to pewter -- he tried to wear a pewter rune necklace and he had the same type of reaction too although his was more of a rash. Try a ring made of a different type of metal on the same finger and see if you get the same reaction.

most golds no matter the % have some other metals in them which some ppl are allergic to...you might have to see a allergist to determine if this is the case or you could suffer from eczema or there is something like soap or a detergent that gets caught between the finger and ring that you don't rinse out completely and it irritates it. you can try a cortisone cream and see if that helps

You may need to get 24K gold. I had a friend in high school that couldn't wear anything less than 24k gold. She was allergic to the alloy's they use as fillers. 24k gold has less of the fillers dur to the higher gold count. Try the 24k and see if that helps. I know it is more expensive, but it's your wedding rings, it's worth it don't you think?

Or ask your husband to buy u a new one.

Sounds like you are allergic to gold, or one of the other metals in the rings - either replace your rings or paint the insides with clear nail polish to keep them from touching your skin.

White gold contains nickel to make it white. I bet you have a nickel allergy. Are you allergic to cheap drug store earrings? You can have the setting dipped in platinum to protect your skin from the nickel.
