I have known employees that were not righteous and would go out of their way to change price or make up a sticker on clothing. I've seen it done.

I've never done it myself, though.

Honestly, I wouldn't report it because if they found out it was me, I think it would not be worth it. I've seen some of the boyfriends or friends these thieving employees hang out with and they are a bad crowd so that is why I do not report.

For all of you who say to report, have you done it before?
And did you win a reward or something?
Weren't you scared if they would come back after you?

I just noted here if you were scared of the other party, and they were up to no good, and their friends were not people you would mess with, why get yourself in a loop? And if you are paid minimum wage $6 an hour, why make it worse. Do you know these huge companies have insurance for pilfering employees or customers and get compensanted big time. Read the fine print.

I've fired people over stealing booze, buying CD's with MY check when they were supposed to be getting office supplies, taking money out of the register, you name it. They have to learn. And yes, I did get some retaliation in the form of being shot with paintballs, vandalism, nasty calls, etc... I had to get a no-contact order with a former employee.

Hopefully the place you work at has cameras. Leaving an anonymous note to check at such and such time might help. I'm all for honesty, but many people aren't.

one should never rat out fellow employees. NEVER..... unless they are a total jerk. considering that profits come from the employee not getting the full market value of his labor, stealing is not even stealing. the employer is stealing from you in the first place. real wages have stagnated or declined since the seventies yet the work load and hours have gone way up. the employers, bosses whatever are lucky they don't get their a-s-s-e-s beaten. their profits come from screwing you over.

a rat is a rat is a rat is a rat.....there are few exceptions. fellow employees should turn someone in if they are a RAT. if i were your boss and you ratted i'd fire your a-s-s. i wouldn't want any rats working for me.

anyway the amount of theft is correlative to the amount the company is screwing over it's employees. if they don't want stealing then they shouldn't treat their employees like crap.

It's not appropriate. You should report it. As an employee of the company, you have loyalty to the company, even if you are only getting paid $6.

leave an anonymous note or message for the person in HR.

Why are you afraid of them finding out? Is your workplace that small that they could find out? What would they do?

I wouldn't be scared about them coming back after me, because they are doing something illegal. I'm not. What can they do? Hurt my feelings? beat me up? get me fired? Sorry - people don't intimate me easily. People can only scare you if you give them power over you.

if someone is stealing from your boss, they are stealing from you as well. In a business, you are all in it together. If he or she has to spend money replacing stolen items, or beefing up security, that's less money he has for payroll. It would be in your best interest to report the theif. And if it were me, i would not expect a "reward" for it.
