I've been trying to research this but I can't find the original Hebrew word used to describe the extend of the flood. I once heard a pastor explain that the word in the original text really meant as we would say "as far as the eye could see" rather than the entire earth, as in global.

However, don't forget that it wasn't that it just rained, the Bible says the earth opened up and poured out water too.

It is entirely possible that the flood was regional. The Bible is written in the language of men. Therefore, when it says the entire world was destroyed by the flood, it could simply mean the entire world as known to those who lived in it at that time and who the text is addressed to.

Noah's flood wasn't global. Moses greatly exaggerated the extent of the flood.
