I just got a new tattoo on my neck and everyone seem to be so judgemental about it! Why is that?

Here's the thing---tattoos won't keep you from office jobs, medical jobs, or any other kind of job. I have a tattoo on my neck, and have never had negative reactions about it, and I work in an office. It's about how you carry yourself, I think. Act like you have every right to have the tattoo, that you are not ashamed of it, and people will react differently to you, and it.

Do not listen to them. Hell, if I listened to people around me, in OKLAHOMA, I would not have what I have, and not be happy.

People with Tattoos have a subcultural, not a counterculture. Countercultures, like that of the 70's were against the main culture. People with body modifications are NOT trying to overthrow anything, most are jst expressing themselves and decorating their bodies. If you can cut your hair as you want, wear the clothes you want, modify your appearance in ANY WAY, why is it bad for them to do...? It's not..

Okay, I do not understand it. I've heard all of their songs. "Tattoos are for men. Women are too fememine." Um, I know plenty of the tattoos I have done/seen on women men would NEVER get, why?...because they are femenine. It's just society's standards. Apparently Guys are 'tough', and I suppose that they are 'bad boys' if they have tattoos. ANYONE can get tattoos...as many as they want... tattoos have NOTHING to do with gender. Many people are raised on hate, judgement and ignorance, so you will always run into that. You must never let them get you down. Tattoos are amazing.. I think tattoos look better on women when they're a good design, and flow with their bodies. I love how some tattoos accentuate women's amazing curves..It's beautiful..

Amina Munster is one of the thousands of women who is BEAUTIFUL,a nd tattooed. ...and google her. Seriously. Masuimi Max, also. She's a sucessful tattooed model.

By the way, this is my condensed version, I could go on, btu I will just stop.

Congrats on the new tat, by the way!! I got a BABY one last night...we were bored at the shop, and I had another artist there give me the little one for Friday the 13th!

There are just a lot of judgemental people in this world. A lot of people are set in their ways of what they think is normal or not normal and they just don't know how to react when they see something that they think isn't normal. I'm into tattoos. I have 5. So if I saw you on the street with a tattoo on your neck, I'd be all like, "that's so cool!". You just need to ignore those people that don't like it. It's your body and they have no say in what you do to it.

Tattoos are more commonplace and more well received than they used to be but there are still some, and will probably always be some, that are judgmental. My chiropractor - who is a born again Christian by the way - runs a professional office and his receptionist has a large and beautiful neck tattoo so there are some fair minded employers besides bars and construction companies. If you have to wear a turtleneck at work then do so and when you aren't there let everyone see your art.

Because the general public is close minded about tattoos in general. I've seen plenty of people (men included) get harassed for getting tattoos in places where people can easily see them. But you made the decision, and you can't go back (not that I'm saying you would). So forget what the majority thinks. Hold you head high and when people say something derogatory just try to explain to them why you got it in the first place. Sometimes when people can understand the "why" they are not so judgmental.

Today's society is changing so it is more acceptable for women to get tattoos then it used to be. However there are still some people who think tattoos on certain areas should not be done on a women's body. They simply think it is "un-lady like" to have a tattoo on your neck. I would just over look those judgmental people and don't let them get to you. I hope you like your new tattoo. :-)

Because people are judgemental - doesn't matter where the tat is. If they don't understand or don't like them, they are sure to let you know. Why does it bother you? A neck tattoo can't be your first, I am sure that if you have any other visible tats, you have gotten looks anyway. People are rude - that is all it boils down to.
Good Luck with the new art!

Because way too many people in this world are narrow minded and judgemental and care way too much about what other people do with their own lives. They can't seem to comprehend the fact that you have a tat on your neck and that has no effect on them whatsoever. Screw em. And if they make comments tell them to shut the f**k up. I hate narrow minded people.

That was stupid.

There's nothing more unprofessional than a visible tattoo. It's ok for men who work in manual labor jobs, but you will have difficulty being hired to work in an office with a visible tattoo on your neck. Since women typically don't have manual labor jobs that are not professional, this is probably the only reason you feel the gender disparity.

You have to understand that having a tattoo alone does not cause people to judge, but having it in an area like your neck looks like you just got out of prison; even if its a butterfly.

Good luck getting a job in an office or public service someday.

Back in "the good ol' days" tats were a male only thing for trashy guys. Nowadays, tats are becoming more mainstream and because it started out as proof of trashy manliness, it is still considered a "guy thing". It's just age old, guys-are-better-than-chicks propaganda coming into play again.
