The whole concept of saints sprung up from local cultures. Towns would often have people who were considered especially reverant or pious or holy (pick your word) who lived exemplary lives. When that person died, they were honored and remembered. It was kind of a mix of "town hero" and "what would so-and-so do?" Over the centuries, the Catholic Church developed the process of canonization to create an "official" list of recognized saints. But that doesn't mean that someone can't be locally considered a saint just because the Vatican hasn't gotten there yet.
There aren't a ton of American saints, but I know of a few: Elizabeth Ann Seton, John Neumann, Rose Duschesne, Isaac Jogues, Rene Goupil, Katharine Drexel, Frances Cabrini

There are many American Saints. Cultures don't foster saints, the Catholic Church does.

The Catholic Church does not say that others in Heaven are not Saints because technically all in Heaven are Saints but, by the public declaration of Sainthood it gives people a for sure person to whom they can pray to for intercession (as they are a member of the Body of Christ)---They are assured these people are Saints as miracles that have NO OTHER EXPLANATION are attributed to their intercession.

What does it take for one to be a saint?
Regardless of what the roman catholic church teaches the bible teaches something different. NO one here on earth "votes" on who's a saint!!! This is a lie.
What does being a saint mean? Answer, santified which means Saved. "
Acts 16:31"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household."
Mark 16:16 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Not many, according to the bible a saint is a term used to refer to someone who is a holy person, in which holiness is the state of being holy, that is, set apart for the worship or service of God, not to just talk about it, but to live a holy lifestyle...
