I am not trying to be rude okay but I asked other hispanics and I am just wondering if Illegals that are hispanics want to be Americans so bad then why do they carry around the Mexican flag (for example) and say VIVA MEXICO i mean if you love mexico so much then why come here. I understand the money issue but I see the rallies on TV and it just confuses me why not carry an American flag saying long live USA because that is the country they want to be apart of. Just a question okay as I have said before my boyfriend is hispanic but he said he doesnt know because he has always been here and cares to know nothing else but America.

My husband's family wonders the same thing, and they are Mexican-American. They think it is stupid to do these things, especially when one has worked so hard to get here and make a life. They see it as taking a step back, not a step forward. They are more supportive of illegals than my husband, but they think that it is necessary for them to speak English and have allegiance for this country if they want to be here.

I'm hispanic and that's a good question. I work next to those immigration rallies in May, and 99% of the ppl. there were carrying American flags....but I know the media loves to provoke scandal and showed only the Mexican flags. And people keep saying that only illegals were protesting, yet I heard a lot of people speaking english. And like William T. says, Germans and Irish carry their flags all the time during their celebrations. But I agree, that if you want to live in America, you should learn english and hold allegiance to the American flag, not to the Mexican, Chinese, Irish, or whatever

Very good question. The thing is that most everyone notices that it is the Mexicans that celebrate their culture and their heritage. Do we not celebrate Puerto Ricans? Do we not celebrate the Polish? I am very proud and happy for those that are one with their culture. It is a beautiful thing. So should all Puerto Ricans go back to Puerto Rico? All of the rallies that you have seen on TV have included everyone from South America as well as many Polish people and every other race out there. Just because you speak spanish it doesn't make you from Spain... Just because you look Mexican, it doesn't make you Mexican. I live in Chicago and I can say that every car I see in the street has some sort of flag from some country. Be proud of who you are and if your hispanic boyfriend doesn't want to know anything else but America.... I feel very bad for him! People rally for all causes, why is it that only the Mexican rallies are judged? They are not trying to insult anyone, why is this so difficult to understand? See, on St. Patricks day, Im Irish, I go to the polish parades, I go to the Puerto Rican parades, I celebrate life and happiness and all cultures... everyone should do the same!

You make a very good point and I agree that illegals should adapt to our country by following our rules and doing things legally and at least attempting to learn the language which btw is harder than most of you think, but I dont think they should have to give up their customs or burn or put away their flags in the process. I dont see why they cannot be proud of where they come from while at the same time being proud of where they are going!! Let them yell VIVA MEXICO all they want as long as it is preceded by LONG LIVE AMERICA!!

So what is the problem? Because I'm from Germany and I have a German Flag I don't want to be a part of the United States. I love the United States, and I love Germany. My husband is Hispanic so if he wants to carry a mexican flag, more power to him. Just because he is not waving an American flag, doesn't mean he doesn't love America, or want to be an American citizen. He is just showing support for Hispanics.

You have a point,
to my knowledge they use the mexican flag for these reasons:
1-they are afiliated with Mexican American associations like MECHA, or RAZA which use the mexican flag.
2- they are proud of their origin.
3- to be identified
However you are mistaken. open your eyes, they also carry the USA flag.
So what they're trying to say is that
They as Mexicans want to be accepted as Americans
(and it's ironic becasue they are already americans from the same american continent)
If they were not carrying the flag then how would you identify them?
remember, they are considered foreign in the USA, so they must say who they are and what are they marching for.
do you need more information? or did you understand?
If you don't like Mexicans then, pressure your government and march and cry (do something productive instead of encouraging racism) so they expell these poor people and you can be happy.
I also have the double nationality USA/ MEX
but I live in my Beloved Mexico and I don't hate the ILLEGAL AMERICANS THAT LIVE IN BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO.

I also have a Mexican flag on one hand and the American Flag on the other because I love both countries. I was born in Mexico and I am 100% proud of it and I will never forget my country, and I am also a US citizen and I am proud of that too. I am legal on both countries and proud of both because many people will love to have the privileges that I have, and I thank God for them.

There's a difference between being proud of your home-counrtry and flying that flag during an immigration protest/parade.
Most of those flying the US flag did so beause the organizers told them to-- If you're protesting to stay in the US, you shouldn't be flying the Mexican flag. Save that for cinco de mayo or some other Mexican holiday. Doing so just goes to show that your allegence isn't to the US, its to Mexico.

I think the big problem with the whole immigration issue is that people in general aren't very good about differentiating between an illegal alien and a hispano. Nor are they good about understanding that being pro legal immigration doesn't mean your a racist and vise-versa. I know and have known many truly fine hispanos. One of my best friends before he recently moved was Cuban. I also have good black friends and have had some really good Asian friends. I'm all for immigration as long as it's done legally and they learn to communicate in our predominant language - English. That doesn't make me a racist. I think it would be great to take all the families that want to come to the US seeking a better way of life and give them what they expected to find here as long as it's done legally. Let the kids get better health care. Let's give them a good education. More than that though, maybe if we're all going to debate the immigration issue, we can come to an agreement to not lump the pro immigration ideology with the racist philosophy. It's not necessarily accurate nor is it fair to those of us who don't qualify that way.

WE came into the USA, in 1955. in 1963, I join the army, lost my right leg! going on 40 years of marriage. This is a free country!! You can do or don't do anything, as long as you don't hurt somebody!! So what if I have an American flag in one hand, and a Mexican flag on the other hand. You have a problem with that???
