Since it expires on the 5th, it is not valid. Perhaps the customs agent will be understanding, but I would certainly attempt to get a passport in the interim (if possible).

It should be good 'till midnight of the day it expires. A few years ago we were sight-seeing at Niagara Falls. We decided to cross over to see the falls from the Canadian side. We had our little dog with us, and we knew her immunization papers were close to expiring. An examination of the papers showed that they were good up to that exact day. The guard at the border said the papers are in order, so long as we'd be out of Canada before midnight.

Yes but if you are Canadian no problem. But if you want to travel further most places require 6 months left on your passport expiration.

Depending where you are going, you might leave that country on the 6th.
